Michael's Story

Life I came to Texas in 1980 after my parents moved to El Paso so my Dad could take over building a manufacturing plant in Juarez for the Gould Inc. company he worked for in Watertown. I initially stayed in New York to finish my semester at Fredonia college (SUNY) and then took some months off to play in a band with Rick Bergeron. Graduated from UT El Paso, still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, I thought about teaching and was TA’ing at UTEP while also working as a runner for a civil firm in El Paso. Some of the guys there convinced me to try to go to law school, I took the LSAT and got into a few schools. I decided to go to Texas Tech in Lubbock because they had the best pass ratio for the State bar exam at the time. (and because they had a lacrosse club - imagine that - in Texas?). ter graduation. I just kept doing it because I liked it and it was fun. I stayed in Lubbock a little over 13 years, got married, had a beautiful wondermus baby girl, (Bernadette) then got divorced. Then, I moved to Brenham, Texas. Worked there a few years, moved to Dallas and worked as a Death Penalty Staff Attorney for the Fed. District Courts for a few years. (incredibly tedious work and very difficult to have 12 judges as your boss[es]). Did private practice (criminal defense) for a whole 20 months - not real pleased with my uhm . . . "clients." Moved to Hempstead, Texas, to prosecute again. Stayed there a few years, then moved to Tyler to my present prosecution job to be closer to my daughter who lives outside of Dallas. In the meantime, my whole family moved to New Hampshire and then gradually they all migrated to Montana where they live now.
