Michael's Story

My life story. . . I was born and raised in Lebanon, PA in 1954 and lived on the north side of town with "humble beginnings" and deep genetic roots in the area.. My parents are Robert K. & Peggy A. Blouch (LHS 1949), and sisters Deborah (LHS '69), and Clarice (LHS '79). My natural father passed away in 1987. My mother remarried Richard Eisenhauer, and they happily reside in Lebanon, PA in their golden years. During my primary educational years I attended several schools all located in the city of Lebanon, PA, starting at Lindley Murray Elementary School located at 10th and Church Streets. I was transfered to Garfield Elementary for 5th and 6th grade only, When I attended it was originally located on North 4th Street, but was subsequently closed in 1972 and later razed. Then I attended Harding Junior High School at 6th and Chestnut Streets from grade 7 through 9. The irony was that my sisters and I each went to different elementary and middle schools! I attended the "new" (3 ring circus designed) Lebanon Senior High School on South 8th Street starting as the first sophomore class in 1970. Graduated in 1972 with honors and distinction which was a long time ago! Hooray! During my junior high and high school years I was very active in several sports and extra curricular activities including football, wrestling, track and field, youth forum leadership, local youth government programs, student council, national honor society and other community and other social group activities. I was fortunate to win several first place and grand prizes in local, state, Mid-Atlantic regional and Eastern National awards for my fine art exhibits in various design mediums including pen and pencil sketches, pastel, and water color, still lifes, modernistic metal working, and clay sculpturing. I still love the fine arts, but haven't done much drawing or painting since that time, because fatherhood and my career occupied most of my time. I served as Class President in my sophomore and senior year and Vice President to a great long time friend Mr. Kevin Moody ESQ. during my junior year. Jean (Fuhrman) O'Donald was the Secretary. Two great friends and people!!! College years: Immediately after High School I attended Northrop University in West Los Angeles, California beginning in 1972. My major was in Aerospace Engineering, since I originally wanted to be a NASA rocket scientist. Seriously! I lived in Inglewood, which is 1 mile from the Los Angeles International Airport, directly under the north runway flight path of the huge jumbo jets, and within walking distance of the Southern Califonia beach! While at college I played in both football and basketball intramural sports, and successfully participated in collegiate Pacific Athletic Conference Track and Field competition as a javelin thrower in my freshman year. It was a blast. That was as far as I went to becoming a true to life rocket launcher! The Viet Nam war ended during the Nixon administration in 1973, and so did my hopes in the Aerospace industry, as Mr. Nixon significantly cut back the space program budgets. Fortunately I avoided being drafted to go to the war, but I continued to offer my support and still believe we owe a debt of gratitude to all the men and woman who serve this great country. As a result of the GOP administrations cutbacks, I subsequently transferred to Penn State University and switched my major to Electrical Engineering / Electronics. Fortunately for me the timing was just before the advent of the digital age and computers. The southern California dudes in Silicon Valley included the likes of Steven Jobs (APPLE) and Bill Gates (MICROSOFT). Neither graduated from college! Life was good in sunny southern California in those days! I graduated from Penn State University majoring in Electrical Engineering and that same year I was married to Linda Blouch (LHS '72) in 1975. She graduated from Maryland Secretarial School and has worked full time as a dedicated professional in the medical and social health care institutions for more than 30 years. We had 2 wonderful children together, who both graduated with honors from Cedar Crest High School. They include a son Jared - Class of 1999, (37 yrs.), and a daughter Jacey - Class of 2002, (34 yrs.) Both graduated from Penn State University in 2003 and 2005 respectively. Jared received a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Computer Information Science and Technology. He still leads a bachelors's lifestyle, and now resides in Mechanicsburg PA, working in the Computer Information Technology and Telecommunications field, as the Director of the Computer IT Department, and has his own successful business, Infinicom Technologies. Jacey graduated in 3 years with honors (cum laude) with a Bachelor of Arts in Intregrative Arts with a Minor in Architectural Studies. In 2008 she completed her post graduate degree with an MBA and spent time as the Assistant Director of Admissions for the Art Institute in York,PA. She is currently employed as a Senior Interior Designer / Decorator. She is married to David Ross and they have a beautiful daughter Kylie, my first grandchild and a handsome son Kellan. Professional Career: Initially I worked before, during and of course after my high school and college years, and started my professional career as a an Electronics Technician working full time on second shift, and as a part time delivery truck driver for Royer's Flowers, while I was also a full time student at Penn State in my last year. From 1975 to 1986: Began full time employment during college with Envirotech Corp. as an Electronics Technician in the Electrical Manufacturing Department. I receiv...Expand for more
ed a series of promotions over the next several years holding key positions in Estimating, Planning, Scheduling, Materials, and Supervision. The company was acquired by General Electric in 1980. I advanced to Program Supervisor and Project Manager, culminating as Manager of Manufacturing for the Electrical Manufacturing Department for the last 6 years I worked there. From 1986 to 1989: I voluntarily left GE in 1986 to help start-up a Factory Automation and Systems Integration firm owned by a Swiss Italian Engineering company called Project Integration. The new office was based in Lancaster, PA, with satellite offices in Jupiter Florida and their Headquarters office located in San Jose CA. I served as Senior Project/Account Manager, Manager of Systems Integration, and Director of Business Development, doing state-of-the-art project work for Fortune 100 businesses on an international basis throughout Western Europe and North America. From 1989 to 1993: PI was acquired by St.Onge Company of York, PA in 1989, who provided high level engineering/consulting services for Automated Materials Handling Systems for Fortune 500 companies. I served as a Director in the company, responsible for New Business Development, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Business Administration. From 1993 to 1994: I left St. Onge Company in 1993 to become Executive VP and Managing Partner of DBM, Inc. The company was one of the first of it's kind to promote the "Virtual Corporation" concept, providing turnkey services and products for complete factory and warehouse automation. They are a successful independent marketing firm promoting materials handling system solutions for all types of major industries and multinational corporations worldwide. From 1994 to 2016: I am the Founder and President of PPI Consulting which I established in 1994. It is an independent Management Consultancy firm, specializing in a wide range of services including strategic planning, operational analysis, facility and equipment design and automation. I also do on-site Project Management during the construction and start-up phases for large scale Factory and Warehouse Automation types of projects. I have done both conventional and automation projects for many Fortune 500 businesses, and have been to other parts of the world to visit more than 1,000 companies in my 40 year career. What a ride it has been! Also during the period from 2003 to 2008 I held Executive Management positions for two very large custom vehicle manufacturers in the Automotive Industry. In 2003 I was invited to join the largest commercial truck manufacturing company in the world, Freightliner, LLC, owned by Mercedes Benz/ Daimler Chrysler. My position was the Division General Manager of American LaFrance Aerials. They were one of the leading manufacturers of custom Fire Trucks for more than 175 years! I managed the PA and Northeastern operations with roughly 350 people in my sector of the business. They were sold to a Private Equity Investment firm in 2006 which was my exit door back to PPI Consulting. Later in 2006 I was offered the position as Vice President of Manufacturing Operations for E-ONE, the #2 USA Fire Truck manufacturer, located in Ocala, Florida owned by Federal Signal, Corp out of Chicago, IL. It was a much larger operation, with approximately 1,250 people in my organization. E-ONE was sold in August of 2008 to American Industrial Partners, and once again I left the company to go back into my independent professional consulting business full time, after the restructuring and downsizing took place. It reminded me of the "Groundhog Day" movie; because as the famous NY Yankees catcher Yoga Berra once said, "It was like Deja Vu all over again! However, subsequent corporate downsizing as a result of acquisitions caused me to revert to my consulting role, which I am currently enjoying, full time - hopefully to my retirement. In 2010 I joined Swisslog, a global Supply Chain company specializing in Automated Materials Handling equipment for Warehousing and Distribution industrial applications. My role was Director of Integrated Solutions and consultative sales and marketing. Swisslog restructured and I left the company in 2011. In 2012 I formed MetaSPACE, LLC another professional consultancy with a primary focus on Supply Chain, Logistics, and Automated Materials Handling solutions. I have the good fortune of partnering with other independent professional consulting firms and have done multiple large scale projects for Fortune 100 companies around the world. Throughout my career I have had the good fortune of visiting more than 1,000 companies, and traveled extensively to Africa, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, and Switzerland. I am now celebrating over 40 years of total professional experience and 20 years with my own privately owned company. Throughout the course of my career I've established many professional relationships all around the globe. I've also had the good fortune of meeting some world renown people and celebrities who now also call sunny north central Florida their home, where I currently reside with my second wife Heather. We thoroughly enjoy our active but laid back southern lifestyle and I have regained my former passion for the arts and music. So far, my life has been both challenging and very rewarding for me in many ways, thanks to the support from my family, many coworkers and friends. Thanks be to God and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for carrying me through the good and bad times. God's Blessings to you, wherever you are! Wishing you a healthy, long and prosperous life!
