Michael's Story

Life.... Nothing short of interesting to say the least After high school I decided to take a year off before going to college (not always a good idea). I held a few jobs that seemed interesting at the time and in late October '87 I decided I needed to go on a better path. So, I joined the US Air Force that November and started basic training in March of '88. During my 24 year career I was an Air Traffic Controller. I was first stationed at K.I. Sawyer AFB in Upper Michigan. In '95 I moved to my next assignment of Tyndall AFB in the panhandle of Florida. From there, I did a year tour in South Korea from Sep '97 to '98. After Korea I was assigned to Grand Forks AFB, ND (back to Great White North). In July '05 I moved to Italy for the next 4 years with my final assignment of Little Rock AFB, Ar. I retired in 2012 and still work at the AFB as a Range Controller for the C-130s. I have been on temporary duty assignments (TDYs) in Germany, Hungary, Jordan for the launch of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Romania. As for my time in Italy, I arrived in July 2005 and was there 4 years. In April '06 I rode the motorcycle down to Imola for the San Marino Formula 1 Grand Prix and I could not be more excited. To witness these cars perform was nothing short of incredible. During July-August of '06 I went to Slovakia for short TDY that was also a great experience. The trip through northern Italy and SE Austria was simply stunning....Expand for more
The scenery is only something I can describe as "You have to see it for yourself" beautiful! In 2007 I visited Bulgaria in support of President Bush's travel throughout Europe. The exciting part of that trip was when I has to recommend to the US Secret Service to keep Air Force 1 on the ground due to possible unidentified aircraft in the restricted area. It's not every day that one gets to recommend as to what Air Force 1 should do. Finally, the TDY in Romania was a wonderful time as I met and worked with some great people while seeing their MIG-21's and our F-16s in action. I have 3 wonderful children with the last being born in June 2002. They are doing fairly well despite the world we all live in, which we all know can be a circus most of the time. So that's about it. It would be great to hear from anyone that attended KISD during the 80's, or any other time for that matter. I feel disappointed in myself that I have stayed in touch with so few people so few times in that area since the '87 graduation. I guess better late than never. Take care all, Michael Oh, since we can't really put down what we exactly want as a dream vacation below, I thought I would put it here. I would LOVE to travel the world in following the Formula One Grand Prix season with my better half, Dianna. As for my Formula 1 aspirations, I have now been to Imola and Monza in Italy... Budapest, Hungary, and twice for the Monte Carlo Grand Prix in '08 and '09.
