Michael's Story
Military brat, Born in Fairbanks, Alaska. Father stationed at Charleston SC AFB and I attended Summerville High School until my Dad retired and we moved to Mesa, Arizona in the summer of 1966. low temperature of the day was 103 F. Missed my friends at Summerville, nearly in a knife fight my first day of class at Mesa High School. Didn't know what the hell a tostado was - looked like grass on a platter to me. I gradually grew to like Mexican food, still do today. Got an AA degree in electronics at Mesa Community college, no jobs available, went into USAF for 4 years active duty, got married. Stationed at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ (U-2's), then Udon Thani RTAFB in Thailand {working on RF-4C's and cameras} (90 miles from Hanoi), which for 2 weeks was the busiest airport in the world based on take-offs and landings. w AFB near Sumter SC - training base for where I just came from. Loved the airplanes, but peacetime military was to chickenshit for me to reenlist. Moved back to Mesa AZ, had 2 boys and finished my BSMET degree at ASU in Tempe AZ in 1977. Worked as metallurgist and gas turbine engines for AiResearch at Sky Harbor, then jobs in Walled Lake , MI; Janesville, WI; Milwaukee WI; Hingham, MA, Wrentham, MA, and Attleboro, MA. Divorced, remarried (19 happy years in 2018), Retired after 16 years at EMS in Attleboro, MA, and we decided to go somewhere more pleasant to live, so moved to Lake Marion near Manning, SC in November 2017. Tough move, but Loving It!
-thats the short version of 51 years after high school. I still have to see what happened with some of my old Green Wave friends (Pike Limehouse is one), and see if I can recognize any of the ladies I knew way back then. Life is funny, how it takes you back in a circle.
