Michael's Story

Life 4/10/07 - Anyone wondering about Greg Cope would know to look at my bio since he never posted one on Classmates. So this is as good a place as any to announce that Greg is no longer with us. He passed away last week on 4/2/07. He had an undiscovered heart problem and died sleeping. Greg was more than a family member to me. He was my best friend for 30 years and a big part of who I am; Greg IS my childhood. My heart aches as will anyone's who knew him. I will miss him greatly every day of the rest of my life. He turned out to be one of the best, most giving people I have ever known. He saved several young people from oblivion and he will be more missed by more people than he ever could have imagined or his humble nature ever could have allowed. To see the hundreds of people who showed up to thank him at his memorial was overwhelming and beautiful. Good bye my good, good friend. "It's not so much the heat as it is the humidity ..." I love you, buddy. ---- My bio: Maybe someone wants to read this stuff, so I'll throw it up here. And I'll leave my bio up from before (below) and I will just say that since then it's been made official, I actually cured something: colic! Yeah, those of you who have children know what I'm talking about. I have a product that works 98% of the time in making babies sleep through the night during their first few months. This isn't a sales pitch because I don't give a crap if anyone here buys it at this point. We've been all over the news and even on Jay Leno so we can't keep up with demand anymore - it really cuts in to my skiing time. Since the last posting we gained the support of the (real) medical community and now 1000s of pediatricians and hospitals support and recommend us. Bragging? Okay! Fine! Hell yes! After rising to semi-decent heights and crashing and burning so many f-ing times - hell yeah! I plan to sell the company and retire within the next 36 months. Then I will be unemployed and looking for a place to crash. You ...Expand for more
gotta extra couch? Let me know now so I can plan my route ... I'll need lots of places to stay through the years because I don't want to inconvenience anyone for more than a couple months; plus, the couches get pretty worn out after a couple months of sleeping on them, then I gotta move on - rolling stone and all, you know? So anyone with a couch, drop a line. Life is good, but I do have one regret that I mention often: missing my 20 yr HS reunion. Dammit! To anyone who was there and remembers me: Dammit! I could have gone and I even had tickets. But I flaked at the last minute for some stupid reason. I regretted it within days. Dammit! Can we do a 25yr? My (old) story: I left T.O. in '87 to start a finance company in North Hollywood. I sold that and moved to Lake Tahoe, NV. I was a fun-loving member of Senior Management at Harrah's Entertainment (casinos). I ran the Marketing programs for 'em from V.I.P. to Table Games, and Slots to ... well, anything you can think of. The casino life was wonderful, but after about 9 years, I stole some management dudes from Harrah's and launched an ill-fated Internet company in San Diego. We blew through a ton of Venture Capital and it tanked when we ran out of cash - Sound familiar? I then came to work with another Internet company in - guess where - Thousand Oaks! Total coincidence. That company (like so many Internet companies) turned out to be crap. So I got back into Finance (mortgage lending and real estate). HUGE CIRCLE, EH? How time flies! I have 3 kids, a wife and since the above was posted, I invented the Miracle Blanket for my third son (MiracleBlanket.com); launched a company to market it. We're now in 26 countries and hundreds of domestic retail outlets. I moved to Medford, Oregon (of all places) and above all I am still as sexy as HELL!! That's what my mom tells me anyway. She is constantly at odds with my wife on the subject, but what does my wife know besides shopping? mgatten at earthlink dot net
