Michael's Story
So...I was the geeky kid who was terrified of dodgeball and inept at getting past hello at High School dances. Little has changed, except that I am happily married with three successful kids - all BC graduates - and two lovely stepchildren, one at Duke, the other at Webb Institute for naval architecture.
I practiced Pediatrics full time until 2000, when I took the position of Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Huntington Hospital/NSLIJ Health System. (I still see kids in my old practice during the best half day of my week!) For the past two years I've been devoting some time to medical education as a faculty member at the new Hofstra/NSLIJ School of Medicine. ddresses...the nerve!]
My wife Kathrynne is also a pediatrician and is recently back from a medical mission in Belize. We also share music as a passion, listening and playing - Kath as a superb clarinetist while I am a lapsed classical pianist. We're between boats at the moment but ordinarily try to spend some of each summer sailing (anyone selling a nice Sabre or Tartan in the 30-35 foot range?).
Notwithstanding my opening thoughts, memories of St. Mary's really do warm my heart. My mom still lives in Manhasset and I often wonder what's happening on Clapham Avenue. I remember Brother Alphonse toasting his hand in the van de graf generator and...was it Brother Patrick?...our AP Biology teacher growing red in the face when confronted with the challenge of lecturing on sexual reproduction in flowering plants...Those were innocent days.
