It's one damn thing, over and over again." -- Edna St. Vincent Millay "When you get that insight about what it is that's motivating you and you now realize that it is not true -- you are in a strong position to beat it. And you will!" -- Dr. Allan Meyer "It's not about you." -- Rick Warren "Don't be fatuous, Jeffrey." -- Maude, in "The Big Lebowski" "You human....paraquat!!" -- The Dude in "The Big Lebowski" "My friends..." -- Both Sen. John McCain, and Sylvester McMonkey McBean (look it up) "I'm just trying to go through life without looking stupid." -- Brian Regan "Change is not a destination, just as Hope is not a strategy." -- Rudy Guiliani "Some people use change to further their careers. Others use their careers to affect change." -- Sarah Palin "...there were few what I call 'Barney' moments. In fact, had a singing purple dinosaur actually been introduced into the kindergarten fray back then, things might have turned ugly." -- Bill O'Reilly, in "A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity" Bill Maher: "I bet there's more free speech in the White House than there is at Berkeley." Dennis Miller: "There's also more people getting <bleep> <bleep> in the White House than there are at Berkeley." "Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.. Humpty went to the White House for help. People look to the government because the people of God are nowhere to be found." -- Tony Evans at Promise Keepers 2009, Boulder "THIMK!" -- the sign my dad *claims* he had over his desk for many years... "In theory, theory and practice are the same, but in practice, they are not." -- Ray Bovet says he heard this one somewhere "When you're mad, keep quiet, or you'll give the greatest speech you'll ever regret." -- Wichita Rutherford, in "The Bluegrass Way" Top Cat: Now do you boys remember the time I told you about, in Philly, a couple of years ago? Choo-Choo: When you ran into those army guys? Spook: And you played poker, like, for 2 days? Top Cat: You're remembering! And I came home and taught the game to you... Choo-Choo: *GASP*!! You don't mean... Spook: Not Acey-Deucy-Under-My-Shoesy!! Top Cat: The very same! "The beautiful thing about encouragement is that anybody can do it." -- Chuck Swindoll Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968) Roo: Look, mama, look! A kite! Kanga: Oh, my goodness! It's Piglet! Winnie the Pooh: [Being dragged behind Piglet] Happy Windsday, Kanga. Happy Windsday, Roo. Roo: Can I fly Piglet next, Pooh? "Everybody can do an impression of Arnold Schwarzenegg...Expand for more
er, but Arnold can't do an impression of a man who can pronounce the word 'California'. -- Jim Gaffigan "People assume that time is a strict progression from cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective point of view it's actually more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey .... stuff." -- Dr. Who "For wavering, varying, being carried up and down, hesitating, living in suspense, losing all hope, these are not faith. Faith is an unshaken, sure, and completely certain determination of the mind; it is having somewhere to rest and take your stand." --John Calvin "Michael was born in a log cabin he helped his father build." -- Richard Carlin (a long, LONG time ago...)". More about Michael:""...the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." --Deuteronomy 31:6,8 See my blog, "JC Harper's Jewish Christian Musings", at jcharper.wordpress.com. Jewish-Christian, Bible studying, guitar strummin, harp pluckin, book flippin, pooter pokin, too civil for my own good, puppy-eyed, chubby-but-not-grossly, exasperatingly pensive, worry-wart, fix-it-myself, mostly calm, good listener, astute, peacemaker, more-conservative-the-older-I-get, dry-ish sense of humor. Educational Trivia: I have certificates in Filmmaking and Feature Film Production from The Hollywood Film Institute. I have a certificate in Messianic Jewish-Christian studies with Zola Levitt Ministries. I have a fascination with Jewish-Christian relations and apologetics. I also hold a Certificate in Church History with Ligonier Academy. I am currently studying for a Master of Arts (my second master's degree) at Colorado Theological Seminary. My first is a Master of Science from University of Illinois back before Microsoft existed. I am a software developer and software test engineer by profession and have worked at HP for almost 25 years, and in the industry altogether since 1979 (although I started computer programming in 1971.) In addition to a computer scientist I was also a videographer and audio/video engineer, and together with Trisha ran an audio/video production company for six years. Trisha and I mixed film trailers that were shown at the American Film Market in Santa Monica and at the Cannes Film Market in France. I professionally taped at least a half-dozen weddings. I've been on the mixing board of 5 churches and on the video camera of 1. I've been the main cinematographer of about 4 feature films (all video, not 35mm) and re-mixed the sound for 1 feature film (none of these were famous). However I haven't done any of this work professionally since 2004. I used to play ragtime piano and was pretty familiar with the life and work of Scott Joplin. I dabble in fingerstyle guitar and folk harp. My favorite music is bluegrass, although I also love classical piano music. My favorite classical pieces are Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 3 in B Minor (Opus 58), and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor (Opus 18). (I can only play these pieces at about 1/1,000 of the correct speed.) I copyrighted about 12 songs I wrote back in my broody pensive days, just for the heck of it (all it takes is about $35 and filling out a form). People tell me I am a good listener and have nice eyes.".
