Michael's Story
Life
Life, a strange game that one is...you just never know where you are going to end up.
For me, I've ended up in some far off places and some not so far off. My job lets me travel the world, see sights many only dream about and still get to enjoy being home.
I've now got two beautiful kids to call my own, a strong woman as my wife and partner, a home, and a job that allows me to enjoy them all more than most 9-5 jobs.
School
To be honest, there's not alot about high school that stands out. I was too introverted and unsure of myself to be outgoing in anything. Never really thought I could find a girlfriend so didn't even bother trying. Same insecurities as most teenagers.
As for the most inspiring teacher, that would have to be Mr Koski, as two of the subjects he taught are essential to my ultimate career path, geology and physics.
Would I do it over? Not unless I could change a few things that I've learned since then. Biggest thing is worrying about what others think...just go for it, what the hell!
College
Recieved a B.S. in Applied Geophysics from Michigan Technological University, but only after a false start, thinking I wanted to be an electrical engineer.
About the only person I kept in contact from Dow High was John Tusciuk. Shared a dorm room with him my second and third year before renting houses the rest of the years. Johny, if you're reading this, "The Palace" is for sale...it looks like they've fixed it up! More keg part...Expand for more
ies were thrown at that place, with more unwashed dishes in the sink than any place has a right to and it wasn't even a frat house!
Workplace
I've had some crappy ones, I've had some low paying ones, now I've got one that alot of people would be envious of. I travel the seas and oceans looking for oil. I am a Chief Positioning Specialist on some of the world's most advanced seismic survey ships.
With my current job, I've had the chance to see sights and places that are tourist destinations for most, but I've also had to see places most would not care to travel to. Here's a quick summary of where I've been and some of what I've seen: sailed the fjords of Norway (Bergen, Stavanger, Oslo and the coastline from Kirkeness all the way down to Bergen, Shetland Islands, Outer Hebrides, Scotland, England, Portugal, Netherlands, Denmark, Turkey, sailed from the Black Sea through the Bosphorus into the Med and then through the Med (saw the Rock of Gibralter from a distance), Canary Islands, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Angola & Cabinda, Equitorial Guinea, Trinidad, Curacao, Barbados, Jamaica, Bahamas, Mexico, and Canada...off the top of my head. I still haven't gotten to Asia (excepting Istanbul on the east side of the Bosphorus), the Pacific Islands, Australia, or South America but I've still got time to get those passport stamps.
When I'm not onboard a ship, I'm at home working hard as a father, and when I have the spare time, a martial arts instructor.
