Life Two days after graduation (hangover delay, you know), I enlisted in the U.S. Navy. The Navy had always been a dream of mine because of my dad's stories of his experiences in WWII. Oh, well... Learned what "lifer" meant, and that was not for me. I enlisted for six years and got an education in electronics. Spent two years each at Great Lakes, IL; Kodiak, AK; and Guam. Married in Kodiak to a girl from Two Rivers, WI., and had a son on Guam. Moved to Manassas in 74. Worked for a year in the Pentagon, then got a job for a company as a tech servicing large newspapers. Spent five years in the Wash. Post. Incredible experience. Moved to Ca. at the end of 1st marriage to be a technical trainer and writer; spent twenty years doing that, becoming manager for 12 years. Next job saw me at a small company for five years, three of that part-time. Worked as a contractor developing training classes and technical manuals for Southern California Edison electricians and technicians. Also did some work for some U.S. Navy missiles. I then worked for a company called Fiserv, documenting credit union software, from 5/2006 to 2/2014. Got laid off and mulled retirement. We've all heard the saying that "God has a plan." I sure believe that now. In July 2014, a couple of tech writing jobs opened at a company called Aerovironment, and I had wanted to work for them for quite some time--five of my former co-workers worked...Expand for more
