Michael's Story
Military
I have been in the Army since 1988 and I retire this year. I spent 13 years in Germany and have been to combat 3 times. I have jumped out of airplanes in the middle of the night as well as froze my ass off in Southern Germany during survival training. I have lived the college life of hard knox as well as living for the party on the weekend. The Army is much better than I would have imagined except the first couple of years, just like being a freshman all over again. I have traveled to every part of Europe and enjoyed every part of it. I have turned out to be a very considerate and kind Soldier that always encourages people when they are having a difficult time. You can witness it on Utube "1SG Livingston". I lived in Kentucky for 3 years, Germany for 13 years, Colorado for 2 years and now I am back in Texas to stay. You can not believe the amount of things that you ...Expand for more
can do in the Army and what it provides. I have spent several years in combat and hostile fire zones which include; 6 months in Desert Storm, 12 months in Bosnia, 7 months in Macedonia/Kosovo, 15 months in Iraq and I am now headed back for 1 more 15 month tour. I have been a scout for 19 1/2 years and the schools I have attended are; Drill Sergeant, Pathfinder, Airborne, NATO Sniper, NATO Survival School, Scout Leaders course, Bradley Master Gunner, and First Sergeants School. I have been wounded 2 times in Iraq and I was awarded the Purple Heart for shrapnel in my right leg. There is no more danger to being a Soldier in the Army than there is being a Cop in LA or New York. That is me in a nut shell and I would not trade it for anything. The best part is that I will be getting paid for the rest of my life as I retire in 1 year and I still have the opportunity to retire again.
