Michele's Story

Life After Cohoes, my husband and I spent 12 years in Wisconsin where I worked as a secretary before we had children. We moved to South Florida in 1978 (Ft. Lauderdale) and I was a stay-at-home Mom. When the girls were older, I went to work at a hotel as a catering assistant. I learned a lot and moved up to Catering Sales Manager and then Director of Catering. I was a "DOC" for various hotels for 16 years, but moved over from food & beverage to the room sales side as a Sales Manager. In October, 2004, I left the hotel and now work for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. Basically I'm doing almost the same thing as when I worked in hotels except that I'm selling Greater Fort Lauderdale. So far it's awesome and the only thing I miss is the employee discount perk. But then, sometimes you have to give up something to get something! I have two beautiful daughters (Sarah in Charlotte and Jeanine in NYC) and two wonderful sons-in-law whom I love beyond belief. What more could one ask for........except grandchildren - and on March 7, 2005, that dream became a reality! Abigail Elise Coats was born and stole my heart!!! Then, on December 13, 2006, Sophie Elizabeth Garcia arrived and now I have two beautiful granddaughters to dote upon. They are so precious and I am thrilled beyond belief.....I only wish I lived closer to them. I'm hoping to move to out of South Florida one of these days, and hope to bring the rest of my family with me! I'm leaning towards the Carolinas as t...Expand for more
hey sort of reminds me of "home" (upstate NY) - hills, "real trees and real grass" and a change of seasons but without the harsh winters..........don't think I could manage them again!! One never knows what tomorrow may bring :) Hope to see many of you (all would be the best!) at our next reunion! School I had a great time in high school and made some wonderful friends - some of whom I'm lucky enough to still be in touch with. I know some people have written messages about how bad the Nuns and/or Priests were, but in the scheme of things, I don't think it was so very horrible. Times were indeed different back then - and we all lived through it. If nothing else, at least we know what we didn't want for our own children!! Band and glee club were so much fun - and you had to love some of the teachers - "Mother" Labore, Sister Celine, Sister Jose, to name a few.....of course, I definitely could have done without Sister Katherine!!! Gosh, I feel like I'm heading down memory lane here....... remember the Friday night dances and making sure TK could see daylight between you and your slow-dance partner? How nice the gym looked for our proms? The way we hoped we'd actually hear "Keveny Memorial Academy" on the radio when it had snowed 3 feet the night before (but we knew it would have to be more like 15 feet for Monsignor to actually close school)? Perhaps I've clouded out the "bad stuff", but I'd go back to high school in a heartbeat...............knowing what I know now, of course!!!!
