Michele's Story

School School career began with kindergarten in Ft Knox, KY. I remember 2 things about it...the teacher 'rocked' over my fingers during reading time and I got in trouble for 'talking' when in actuality I was telling a talker to be quiet!!! I was educated at numerous elementary schools and middle schools, which were a blurrrr...see the list! High school was spent at Killeen High, when there was only one. My interests were BOYS, BOYS, BOYS, choir (girls & all-choral), newspaper (features editor), my horse and cats, rock concerts, skipping school, going to the lake, sneaking out bedroom window and partying - However, I was really a very NICE girl and a GOOD student in lieu of the 'wild' side! College I started college many years after high school. I started out as a part-time evening student at Kilgore Community College in Kilgore, TX, while being a full-time employee with Sun Oil Exploration & Production Company in Longview, TX. It was a shock being with so many 'youngsters' even at age 27/28. After being laid off by Sun, I ventured off to College Station TX A&M for a semester in Business before deciding to end my college career at UT in Tyler, TX with a Psychology degree. I changed from A&M to UT-Tyler because of the teacher/student ratio. A&M was too huge, coming from Kilgore Community. I did check out UT-Austin, but still decided against the large student population. I never liked school and didn't like college either, especially after being out in the work force and earning a paycheck. I didn't like studying, taking tests or even having to sit in a class and listen to boring profs teach something I probably would never use in the future. I was involved in the Young Republicans Club, worked old man Bush's last political campaign as well as local politics, and Business Club. I was never so glad to graduate. I did not participate in grad...Expand for more
uating ceremonies. I started graduate school, what was I thinking!, and ended that before the end of the first semester...tons of papers and trying to work full-time proved that I wasn't THAT ambitious. Also, during my graduate year of 1991, I was divorcing...which took a toll. Workplace Oh, do I have to think about it? Since high school, I've held more than 40 jobs - from hotwalking, groom, exercise girl at Keeneland Race Track in Lexington, KY to an extra in the movie 'Stripes', to asst manager of Hasting's Records in Shreveport, LA to many secretarial and other odd (or unmentionable) jobs. Following college, my first 'professional' job was with the State of Texas Employment Commission in Tyler, TX as a Social Worker in the food stamp unit, facilitating job search seminars and ensuring recipients maintained compliance. In 1993, I moved to Louisville, KY to work with my father's company, North American Van Lines, as a Relocation Consultant/Estimator first as a 'packer' - whew! - to learn carton dimensions/capacity to enhance my skills as an estimator. Loved the freedom and diverse daily interactions with relocating households and businesses. I did not like the business arrangement of working for family. In 1995, I moved on to Bank One in Louisville working in Commercial Loans as a loan processor. 1998, I transferred with Bank One to Columbus, OH, promoted to a Relationship Manager in the Tax Refund Loans Division. In 2000, I returned to the Louisville area as AVP/Marketing Manager with Republic Bank. In the last two positions, I had the opportunity to travel across the United States attending numerous industry related trade shows, for which I was responsible. Since May 24th, 2004, I am resigned from Republic Bank...taking a break to contemplate my next career move, hopefully one that I can stay at home and/or be my own boss! Any suggestions?
