Michelle's Story

I have been busy like most folks I suppose. I got married while I was still a Senior in High School. I had my 1st daughter before I graduated, but I did graduate thank goodness. I went to work not long afterwards. While still with that same job I had my only son. I quit work to stay home with him which was fun. After 10 abusive years of marriage, my husband and I divorced when my son was about 4 years old. Not much later I met a man I had once worked with. We got together and were common law married. We had two daughters, 18 months apart. After being at a new job a month and a half, I became a widow when a freak accident took his life. He was buried on his 26th birthday and I had a 2 1/2 and a 9 month old to raise alone. I started dating later on and after a real loser of a boyfriend, I met the man of my dreams. Too bad I wasn't the woman of his. We were together 7 years, married 5 of those. Those were some of the happiest years of my life with the exception of having and raising my children. I was lucky enough to not have to work when I married him and got to be a stay at home Mom with my two youngest daughters. A tragic event in my husband's life seemed to change him though and after rethinking his life and what he wanted from it, being my husband wasn't on his list of priorities, so he left me in 2000 and we divorced in '03. I met a guy about a year later and after dating awhile, he moved in and we've been an on again of again couple, but mostly just housemates. It's less complicated and means less heartache that way. In the middle of this relationship though I decided I needed a career change. I went...Expand for more
to truck driving school, got my CDL A and was luky enough not to have to go OTR, since I am my daughters only surviving parent. I got a job with a local company hauling rock and I love it! I've been there and year and a half. My kids have all turned out pretty good for the most part. My oldest daughter, age 26, is engaged and has a beautiful little girl of her own, my only granddaughter so far. Unfortunately we are estranged thanks in part to her Dad and Step Mom. My son has a 2yr old little boy, my only grandson so far. Thank goodness the baby lives with his ex girlfriend though! My son has given me more grief and gray hairs than my 3 daughters combined! Time will tell whether this stint in a TDC Drug Rehab Program did any good. I hope so because he has run out of options if he messes up again. My middle daughter is 19 and is attending Junior College, the first in my family to do so. I am so proud of her. My youngest daughter is going to be a Senior in High School this coming year, then she too will be attending Junior College to get her basics out of the way like her sister. Their Dad has to be smiling as he looks down upon his girls! I have been mostly blessed my whole life with just anough tragedy and heartbreak to keep me humble and give me perspective not to mention strength. I am lucky in that I still have both my parents as well as my Step Parents still alive. I also have 3 great half sisters and 2 half brothers, as well as a bunch of nieces and nephews. Life is good for the most part. Only God knows what the future holds so I will try to make the most of the time I have left here. Wish me luck...
