My Life
I am a single mom and once again alone. My boyfriend passed away on the morning of Christmas Eve from an alcoholic death (liver and kidney failure) We enjoyed a year and a half of being together as a couple. I am very grateful that God brought him into my life, but now I am as I said once again alone. We got together after I had no significant other in my life for close to 8 long years. I enjoyed the freedom of being single but I was ready to settle down. My boyfriend and I were living together so we might as well have been married at that point. I miss him terribly. I finished my training to become a medical assistant in February 2006, however, I'm not using it at all these days. I am attempting to get a job with the State as an Office Technician Typist. I have had many inquiries and I look forward to having something come of them soon. I still toy with the idea of going back to school to further my education, but I don't know what I would major in at this point so I think that my education will have to wait for a while. My family tells me that I should get my degree in education and become a teacher, but I don't have the patience for teaching. It's hard enough being a single parent of two teenaged boys. Teaching would only make me crazier than I already am. :^P
I still live in the same neighborhood that I grew up in, the same house as a matter of fact. The only thing that has changed there is that they finally built the school where the open field used to be next door to the house. The only good thing about that is that the neighborhood hoodlums can no longer set fire to the dry brush 10 times or more every summer. Other than that it kind of sucks. I miss the wildflowers in the springtime and my kids missed out on building forts, dirt clod wars, building bike trails and...Expand for more
ramps, and the possibility of building tree houses in the big oak tree in the middle of the lot. I guess that is the price of progress and suburban development. If you want open space, you have to go to another state.
I can be seen on occasional Friday/Saturday nights at local Karaoke clubs attempting to recapture the spotlight I once enjoyed when I was performing with CSE or Jazz Choir or even Concert Choir at Foothill. During baseball season, I am usually in the bleachers at the little league fields cheering on my boys to victory, although this last season Andrew's team managed to rip defeat from the jaws of victory more often than not. Oh well, they're kids. They need to learn how to lose gracefully as well as how to win gracefully. This is also a lesson that I need to master, but that's another story.
My Kids
I have two very smart (unlike their mother) very precocious, very handsome (again unlike their mother) and semi-athletic young men. My oldest's name is Andrew and my youngest is Joshua. Andrew has recently passed me by on the height scale and Joshua isn't very far behind. Andrew attends Foothill High (the poor kid) and Joshua still attends Foothill Farms Jr. High and both are beginning to slack off academically (much like their mother did in high school and Jr. high school). I had hoped that they would find the value of hard work and a decent education at an early age, but alas, the slacker gene has overridden their need for knowledge. On the bright side, they both have a great sense of adventure and a wry sense of humor (I've heard it told they get their sense of humor from me, but I'm not so sure...I'm really not that funny). They keep me laughing, though. I am very proud of the both of them. (Like it's not totally obvious by what I have written about them in this forum.)
