Michelle's Story
Life
Life turned out much differently than I envisioned. I own a black adorable mutt named Charlie. I have an 19 year old who is out on his own. I don't see him as often as I would like but our relationship is good. I still train in martial arts and am working towards my 2nd degree black belt. I did own a school at one point but gave that up a few years ago. I am married and working as a Sales Associate for Aflac.
School
I worked part time throughout most of high school and my parents had me involved in so many extracurricular activities outside of school that I had just a handful of friends whom I rarely got to see. As far as teachers go, I would say Mr. Hartung inspired me the most and Tina Shearn (who passed away March 23, 2005) kept me in line as her daughter Chrissie was and still is my best friend.
College
I graduated from CSU with a B.A. in Accounting and eventually went on to obtain my M.S. in Accounting from CU Denver. My undergrad years were a bit wild and crazy and I made a lot of good friends who I still keep in contact with. I remember seeing some Evergreen classmates on campus at times....Expand for more
Brent Burden was in my graduating class at the CSU Business school. My graduate school years were much more serious and I met people from all walks of life who showed me how to apply the practical side of business to the academic theory. This really opened my eyes as to how intertwined business and government are in our society and the impact this has on the economy.
Workplace
After Grad school I worked for the Federal government for 12 years (nine of them being with the IRS, two with the Department of the Navy, one with the Department of Interior) as an accountant and CPA. During that time my son and I became involved in Martial Arts and eventually I opened my own school which I no longer own. I now work for Aflac as a Sales Associate and am loving it!
Military
I worked for the military as a civilian for two years for the Department of the Navy at the Patuxent Naval Air Command Station in Maryland. It was the most demanding position I ever held with the government or anywhere for that matter. After doing that, I developed a great respect for men and women in uniform and admire anyone who actually served.
