Michelle's Story

Life Life has been on hold to say the least. When I graduated from Leyden I was all about playing music with my band and hanging with my friends. Then I went away to college and made some new friends- funny how you always think and maybe even say we'll never stop talking, but it's really inevitable. When I transferred back home my mom got remarried, so the family mutated a little bit, and that was a good cue to move back out. Boyfriends came and went, school went on, work droned on and life fell in the backseat. Currently, yep, it's still back there until work gives up the driver's seat or school gives up shotgun. That would be about it. I have two nutty cats that are more entertaining than anything, and a beautiful Jeep Wrangler that loves dirt. Right now life doesn't get much better. School I think high school was an awesome time in my life simply because I was always involved with something, activity or project-wise. It was bittersweet going off to Bradley. It was lonely at first, but it was good that I was still playing with my band at the time- major moral support. I wasn't long before I got used to being on my own; ended up with a room all to myself when my roomate never showed. After a little over a year I ended up back in the hometown and ended up transferring to DeVry. Not the greatest school ever, but a style all of it's own. I wouldn't go there for the technical detailing, sup...Expand for more
erior staff, or knowledgable faculty, but it beats sitting in a lecture hall with 300 other students any day of the week. So now I'm about 8 classes out from graduating with a Bachelors in Business Admin: Operations Mgmt. Workplace Alright, so my professional life began stocking cat food at the local PetSmart. In three years- during high school- I went from stocking to cashiering, to basically managing the frontend. That job was great because of the people I had the pleasure of working with. It was high school without the classes- so much fun all the time and unpredictable. When I transferred schools I started looking for a more stable job that could pay the bills. I spent time in the accounting department of a print shop and looked into a job at the bank, but I ended up at Costco. At first, it looked bleak, I made the mistake of getting hired during grand opening- you know, the part right before they cut half of the staff. Of course I was on the cut list, but I focused on making myself an asset which has really paid off. In 3 years, I've worked around the entire warehouse, and been promoted- currently a food service manager. The best part of my job is the travel when I help setup and open new warehouses. Can you really beat getting paid to travel a couple times of year? The job can be stressful- anyone ever seen a Costco on a saturday? but the company gives you everything you give to it.
