Miciotto's Story

Life COL Miciotto O. Johnson hails from Atlanta, Georgia and is a graduate of Florida A&M University (FAMU). He was commissioned in Armor in 1986 and holds a BS from FAMU in music and an MA from Webster University in Information Management and Computer Resource. COL Johnson has served in Armor and Cavalry units. His previous assignments include Tank Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Battalion S-4 in 1st Battalion, 64th Armor, 24th Infantry Division. COL Johnson commanded Invader Troop, 3rd Squadron, 11th Cavalry Regiment, Bad Hersfeld, Germany and A Company, 2nd Battalion, 67th Armor, 1st Armor Division, Friedberg, Germany. In November 1995, he was assigned to the National Security Agency as an Army Interoperability Officer and Joint Team Chief, where he served until attending CGSC in 1998. From July 1999 to July 2001, COL Johnson served as the Executive Officer of 1st Battalion, 37th Armor "Bandits", 1st Armor Division, Friedberg, Germany. While there, COL Johnson deployed with the Battalion to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian. From July 2001 to June 2004, he served as the Senior Task Force Analyst, Deputy Senior Task Force Observer Controller, and Deputy Operations Officer at the Combat Maneuver Training Center (CMTC) in Hohenfels, Germany. In June 2004, COL Johnson deployed to Tikrit, Iraq and assumed the duties of the Deputy Brigade Commander for the Dagger Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, while the Brigade Combat Team was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. 5, and immediately began preparing the Battalion for combat. He deployed the Battalion Task Force to Kuwait and subsequently Ramadi, Iraq in August 2006 where the Task Force successfully completed its mission of eradicating Al Qaeda from Ramadi and Al Anbar in a steadfast partnership with the Iraqi Security Forces while nurturing Governmental, Educational and Economic prosperity in a Full Spectrum environment. COL Johnson relinquished command of 1-77 Armor on 30 JAN 08, and was subsequently reassigned to the NATO Allied Rapid Reaction Corps in Mochengladbach, Germany where he now serves as the G5 DACOS. COL Johnson's military training includes the following: Armor Officer Basic Course, Armor Officer Advanced Course, Cavalry Leaders Course, Joint Firepower Controllers Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School (CAS3), Systems Automation Course, COMSEC Custodian Course, and the Command and General Staff College. COL Johnson's decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Joint Services Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (OLC), Joint Services Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (5OLC), Valorous Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4), NATO Medal (Kosovo), Kuwaiti Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal (Kuwait), and the Combat Action Badge. Colonel Johnson is married with two children.
