Mick's Story
I turned 60 last New Year's Eve with family and friends in Oregon and realized, like most of you, that life today is about leaving a legacy of living, loving and learning. Shelley (Diven) and I married while at UC Davis in 1971. We are fortunate to have three lovely adult children and five grandchildren, the eldest grandchild (18, in her freshman year at Chico State and the youngest (5) at pre-school.
After an exciting career in the US Army with assignments around the world, we settled in Monterey County. I taught at the Naval Postgraduate School (executive education) and was an internal consultant for HSBC, also executive education. I retired but was called back to academia as a Visiting Assistant Professor teaching graduate public administration courses for Golden Gate University, San Francisco. me in our garden raising flowers and veggies or with grandchildren sharing her love and affection.
We live on 2 1/2 acres in Corral de Tierra, Steinbeck's Pastures of Heaven, completing indoor and outdoor projects - Shelley's the designer and site boss and I'm the laborer. Our lives are about being with friends and relatives, sharing a good pinot on our deck or working in the gardens. I am growing muscat and pinot noir grapes on the back acres and look forward to drinking product as soon as they are ready.
I am also one of the Class of 68 reps (Ray Hague and Gigi Cadenasso are the others) working with reps from 69 - 71 as we begin planning for a 2010 reunion. Stay tuned to this Classmates website as the reunion committe develops the general plan. I want to include the Armijo Class of 68 in this reunion as many of us attended classses together.
