Mickey's Story
I Married Laura Sims in 1971.I graduated from USC in 1973. I coached in Swansea,SC in 1973-74. I coached in Bluffton,SC in 1974-1976.I taught at Pathway Day School in Savannah,GA in 1976-77. I moved back to Greenville in 1977 and coached at Travlers Rest from 77-81.Laura and I divorced in 1978. I taught and coached at Blue Ridge from 1983-86. I met my present wife Garrett in 1983 and we married in 1985. I began teaching at Northwood Middle in Taylors in 1986 and remained there until I retired in 2006.I currently play a little golf with Billy Southerlin, Jimmy Crain, and Mike Dockins, but mainly I concentrate on being a grandpa. God in Greer. Garrett has worked with the children's program there for 30 years. Garrett retired from DHEC in 2006. We have a daughter Emily who an assistant principal at Ford Elwmentary School in Laurens county. We have a grandson Matthew who is 12 and a grandaughter Sarah Katherine who is 10.Emily's husband Colby is a Laurens City fireman. Garrett and I own a house in Surfside Beach,SC and are beginning to spend more time there ( not as much as we would like). Garrett had a bad fall in Jan.2010 and crushed her shoulder. Surgery was required. She has limited use of her right shoulder and arm. Keep us in your prayers. Looking forward to warmer weather and going to Surfside!
