Jill's Story
Life
I am currently the Food & Nutrition Director for the Dunklin R-5 School District in Jefferson County. My husband, Mike and I live in South County. Our 3 children are grown and all live in the St. Louis area. We have two grandsons. I am active in the School Food & Nutrition Directors Assoc. of Greater St. Louis, and my daughter and I sing with the Statesmen Singers. We enjoy wine, and have met many great people at wine tastings which we attend most every Friday night at Kaya's, a great shop in South County, across from S. County Shopping Center on Union Rd. Come on down and join us some Friday. The tasting is free, and there are some great wines out there. My husband has been retired since 2001, after 28 years of teaching. He does custom cabinetry and remodeling to keep himself busy. I also enjoy miniatures, and have restored my old dollhouse with my grandson, and we built a log cabin model and furnished it. We also love to travel, and spent 3 weeks in Italy in July, 2007. We have been to England, Wales, Ireland, France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands. We prefer unguided tours as we love to explore on our own and visit the "un-touristy" places.

d with Leukemia. (AML) I have been through several rounds of chemo, had a bone marrow transplant in Sept. and relapsed in January, 2008. After spending 5 weeks at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Feb. & Mar. I am pleased that I am now in remission and Leukemia free. It has been a long hard journey, but one that has changed my life for the good. It does change one's perspective. I look forward to each and every day as a gift. We take so much for granted. Life is good!
April, 2009. Updating information. My Leukemia has unfortunately returned. I just had a partial bowel resection to remove an intestinal blockage that was in fact, Leukemia. I can't say that I am looking forward to Chemo again, as my hair is just now starting to thicken up from the past two years. Oh well, nobody ever promised me a rose garden. It is what it is, and always has been. Hopefully, the chemo will put me back into remission. I will be undergoing tests over the next few weeks to determine the best course of action. The good news is, I'm just 10 pounds away from what I was when I got married, 39 years ago. Whew! That's a long time. Again, I am saddened by the results of the pathology report, but knew it could be a possibility.
