Mike's Story

Life Since nobody from the class of '77 has provided a bio, I'll be the trendsetter. Happily enough, you get the Readers Digest Condensed Version. I graduated from UW-Madison in 1981 and moved to Alaska-running part of a salmon cannery. I did that for 2 years to pay for grad school--it was definitely an adventure. After much travel (Wash DC, San Diego, LA) I settled in New Orleans in 1988. I married in 1990, my wife (Darnell) is maritime attorney. We live in a house built in 1860 in a neighborhood called the Irish Channel. We are the proud parents of two Great Danes--Minerva & Cleopatra For the past several years I have worked in fund raising for non-profits. I was Development Director for the National D-Day Museum when it opened June 6, 2000. It was exciting/insane as I met Steven Spielberg,...Expand for more
Tom Hanks (due to Saving Private Ryan), the Secretary of Defense, and Miss America--it was a busy time! Since then I have been working as a consultant on another museum project. On a personal note, I have become a potter and painter with some of my work actually selling in galleries (quite the ego stroke). Being in N.O. you have to take part in Mardi Gras so my wife (Darnell) and I are member of The Mystic Krewe of Tucks and ride in their parade on the Sat. before Mardi Gras. I also parade with Pete Fountain's Half Fast Walking Club on Mardi Gras Day--there is something unreal about walking down the middle of the street, w/2 million people begging for the beads you are carrying... It has been a long time but I plan on coming to FdL in late spring for the first time since 1984--has much changed?
