Mike's Story
in early March, 2016 I started losing control of my left arm and leg. A ct scan showed a mass on my brain. More scans showed I have lung cancer that metasticized to my brain. I've had my radiation treatment on the brain tumor and have normal use of my left side. Chemo is next in the plan.
The good news is that I'm a Christian. I'm not promised tomorrow and heaven isn't here on earth. Cancer happens here. God is the only one that knows what the cancer is, why it is, what it's going to do and when it will do it. Everyone else is on a discovery mission. He has placed excellent medical facilities and doctors in my path and the lead oncologist said he is doing the job that God wanted him to do. I couldn't ask for more. When I was at IBM, I researched policies, procedures, regulations and laws ad nauseum. But the Lord says don't worry and don't try to imagine future things that will never occur. I haven't done any research or searches and will not be consulting Dr Google. My faith is strong and he has taken all worry, stress and anxiety from me. He has blessed me in so many ways. y a different path when I have zero knowledge or wisdom in this matter. I'm in a good place now. The outcome is in His hands. I know he will continue to bless me and amaze me.

My wife and I live in Raleigh, NC. I retired from IBM in 2005 (after almost 37 years) when they sold their personal computer division to Lenovo. I took a position with Lenovo overseeing Int'l Trade Compliance and left Lenovo in late '07. Decided to try something totally different and went to work for Costco. After just over a year with Costco I fully retired just before Christmas '08. I have one daughter, married, and two grandchildren who arrived in June 2015, twins (boy and girl).
Took a trip back to the Maplewood area the end of May '09. Drove around all the old streets and hangouts. A lot has changed, but a lot hasn't changed at all. Lots of memories. Like how quiet it was in the sixties, at eight in the evening on a snowy night. We could have six inches of fresh snow before the first car would drive down the street and leave tracks. The air was crisp and clean and it was so peaceful. I miss that.
