Mike's Story
University of Montana 1962-1966 (freshman roommate was Walker Banning, a YHS classmate)...University of Denver College of Law 1966-1969. Married since 1967 to a North Dakota State University girl (now a retired pharmacist) I met on a blind date while we were attending some summer school enrichment courses at UM. 1 son, 2 granddaughters.
Went straight from law school into the Air Force as a JAG. Intended to get out after 4 years but liked it so well I stayed 36, retiring as Law Department (faculty) Head at the USAF Academy. Made (assignment) stops along the way in Montana, North Dakota, Vietnam (where I ran into a fellow YHS varsity tennis teammate Dick Howze in Saigon), Holland, Germany (Berlin before the wall came down and then Kaiserslautern a decade later), Washington DC (3 times), Colorado Springs (twice), and Saudi Arabia (twice). In addition there were lots (and lo...Expand for more
ts!) of Air Force Congressional Liaison trips--made it to most states and all over Europe, Africa, South America, and the Far East. Retired in Northern VA in 2004 and went back to work in 2005 as an Air Force civilian attorney working military personnel law issues at the Pentagon, retiring forever at the end of 2010. Stayed in Northern VA.
Two other 1962 YHS classmates and I visited the much-expanded and modernized YHS in 2011 but there were still plenty of familiar, memory-inducing landmarks. Standards remain high, student pride was evident, and you wouldn't know there's a tsunami of PC-think infecting our education system what with a prominent table of banned books displayed in the library for Banned Books Week.
Hobbies/Passions: Classical music at the near-continuous near-total immersion level (especially Bach), punching holes in pieces of paper at shooting ranges.
