Mike's Story
I spent my career working for the State of Minnesota, in its employment security department. The current name is Employment and Economic Development. The job I had was like an internal consultant. Although, the last decade of my career I facilitated a federal grant to develop a series of online job tools. I also worked with a mobile office demonstration project we called the Big Purple Truck. The concept was great and had the 2000 election gone differently we would have had 20 of these vehicles to provide social services in the midst of disasters like Katrina. This allowed to travel to a number of state's around the country

I was involved in the creation and operation a non-profit fund raising organization called Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless (oyh.org). It makes grants to organizations that provide food and shelter to Minnesota's poor.
Since retirement I have become active with the Salvation Army's Emergency Disaster Services Division. I am now a certified Emergency Manager in Minnesota, although I doubt I will ever use it to get a job. As a result I have responded to a tornadoes, floods, fires, standoffs, and a bridge collapse. I also have the privilege of staffing various event like the Red Bull Crashed Ice event in St. Paul.
