Mike's Story
Personally, I have been married for almost 28 years and live in Pembroke Pines just a couple of miles from the Everglades.
Our youngest graduated with honors from UCF in May of 2008 and did the same with her MBA from Rollins College in 2010 she now works for the Nielsen Corporation. The oldest, a preschool teacher, lives in Asheville, NC with our two grandkids and is super mom.
We have a house in Burnsville about 35 miles from Asheville and we plan, at least initially, to live there once my wife retires. I started building the house prior to my marriage; I finished just in time to start remodeling last summer.
Professionally, I retired in June of 2008 after 35 years with the Miami-Dade County School district as a teacher and administrator (stop laughing). I worked briefly for Communities In Schools the largest dropout prevention non-profit, and now work at Miami Dade Colleges...Expand for more
' Wolfson campus assisting Veterans and students with disabilities.
I ran into many Norland graduates during my time with MDCPS and hired no fewer than 5 into the system. One, who was the 1991 Norland salutatorian, is now an AP at Norland and will soon be a principal.
Of general interest, I ran into Bill Dawkins in late February 2009 in the COSTCO checkout line. We had a wonderful conversation he had great memories of our class in particular and of those times.
Another random meeting occurred when Jack Mautino (Norland JR. band director and my neighbor in Norwood) stopped at my table during breakfast. He is 80 now and sharp as a tack; he remembers many of us by name and instrument. I think he could still hit me with an eraser from the front of the band room like the old days.
All the best to any Norland graduates, classmates, and friends who read this
