Mike's Story

The good life -
After high school I joined the United States Marine Corp and served proudly for 4 years. While in the Marine Corp I played basketball on the service team and when my 4 years were up, I had a handful of scholarship offers. I eventually decided to attend the University of Alaska and traveled right from my duty station to Alaska. I fell in love with the place, the lifestyle, the people, the opportunities, the outdoors and every other aspect of life up here.
After finishing college I worked as a commercial fisherman on a crab boat. I did that for about 6 years before returning home when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. Even though I was living in California, my heart was still in Alaska.

or an amazing road trip. We traveled across California, Oregon, Washington, Canada and ultimately Alaska. Life up here has been everything I expected. I am working as a firefighter/EMT and I am also training for Alaska search and rescue. I love my career. We spend a lot of our time camping, fishing, hiking, exploring Alaska, traveling, working, making new friends and visiting old friends.
I also have amazing twin daughters (Brittany and Courtney) who turned 19 this summer. They are both living in California and going to college and have always been great kids. I couldn't ask for much more. I have an amazing family, a great career and I am living in a place that has always captivated me. We also travel to California on a regular basis to visit the girls and the rest of the family. Life seems to fly by so it's important to do the things that make you happy. I wouldn't change a thing about where my life is and I look forward to each day and the joys and challenges that come with it. Regards, Mike.
