Mike's Story
Mike Hundert grew up in Sherman Oaks, attending Riverside Drive, Millikan, and Grant High in Van Nuys before moving to Colorado where he graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder (74) with a BS in Broadcast Journalism.
Mike entered the broadcast arena in both news and sports. Living in Aspen, Mike seamlessly became a ski journalist and The Voice of professional ski racing during the late 70s. He was Director of World Pro Skiing, the global professional ski racing circuit created by Bob Beattie, the father of American ski racing, from 1977-1981.
In 1981 Mike moved back to Los Angeles to dive into the family's upstart optical business. Joining his mother, father, and sister Donna (Grant graduate...Expand for more
'67), they grew the business to become one of the most influential eyewear distributors in the world, serving over 80 countries with brand name frames and sunglasses. Mike and Donna sold the company in 2016.
Mike and his wife of 37 years, Carol, split time between their home in Snowmass, Colorado and their high rise condo in Century City, California. They have two sons, one of whom lives in Sherman Oaks and the other on a ranch outside of Aspen, Colorado.
Mike is Immediate Past Chairman of The Vision Council, a board member of the International Skiing History Association, and Chairman of the Bob Beattie Ski Foundation. He is an advisor to several companies, from early stage to publicly traded entities.
