Mike's Story

So, after leaving graduation in 1972, I moved to Los Angeles to attend USC (with Rick Zwern, Rick Battistoni and Ted Buban). Graduated from SC in 1976 (Political Science) and married my high school sweet heart (and former Matt Maid) Sharon Small. We endured three years in New Haven, Connecticut while I attended Yale Law School, and then moved back to Los Angeles in 1979 where I started law practice at a litigation firm (Kadison, Pfaelzer, Woodard, Quinn and Rossi). Throughout the 80's I worked on some pretty interesting litigation, representing firms like Baskin Robbins, the NBA, Dreyers and Lockheed. I became a partner in the firm in 1987 and six months later we dissolved the partnership and I ended up at my current firm, Sidley Austin. Sidley is a globa...Expand for more
l firm with over 1600 lawyers. I currently am the managing partner of the Los Angeles office, which has 160 lawyers. I split my time almost evenly between firm management issues and representing clients --mostly major accounting firms in securities-related litigation and regulatory matters. Sharon and I are still married (36 years and counting). We live in Pasadena in a 101 year old house that we rebuilt between 2006 and 2010. We have two kids (Brendan- 29) and Katie (26). Brendan is married and working in NY at a small money management firm. Katie lives in Pasadena and is making a go of a start up business- "Simmering Sugar", which makes the worlds best Gourmet Toffee. (Check it out at Simmering Sugar.com). Hoping to make the 40th Reunion this Fall. MCK
