More about Mike:"I'm a fifth generation Normanite, educated from K to Law School in Norman. I met my wife, Diana Marie Ford McDanel, in 1968 while we were officers in the U.S. Navy, and both assigned to Attack Squadron 128 at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. I served 5 1/2 years in the Navy, a little over a year as a Hospital Corpsman, the last two as a Bombardier/Navigator in Attack Squadron 52 at Whidbey Island, WN, and aboard the U.S.S. Kittyhawk, CV-63. We left the service in December, 1971, returning to Norman where I finished Law School in 1973....Expand for more
Our oldest son, Bryan, was born on December 13, 1973, my 30th birthday and our 4th wedding anniversary. He is married to Jennifer, and has 4 children, Justin, Taylor, Rachel and Nora. Our son Brett was born May 30, 1979 and the youngest, Grant on May 31, 1983. Grant was due some time later, but Diana went into labor on Brett's birthday from laughing so loud and long as he tried to blow out 4 candles (the kind that continuously flare back up). After graduating from Law School, I practiced law briefly, and was then appointed to the position of Special District Judge, sitting primarily in Norman. In 1982 I was appointed by then Governor Nigh as District Judge for Cleveland, McClain and Garvin counties. I served in that capacity until retired by an astute electorate in 1991. I again practiced law briefly and was later appointed as an Assistant District Attorney, with primarily Civil duties, by Tim Kuykendall in 1995. The current District Attorney chose to cut me loose when he took office in 2007, allowing me to retire two years earlier than I wished. I now thank him for that favor. I enjoy travel, ghost towning, being in front of an audience, books, Grandkids (most of the time), fishing on Grant's new boat, some politics, and continuing to attempt to correct the few mistakes we made raising our sons, of whom we are justly proud today. I enjoy smoking, drinking and enough sinful thought to list my religion as Christian only. When I attend church, I go with my wife to the LDS Church, but retain my identity as a card-carrying Methodist.".
