Mike's Story
Life
Updated! I'm married to a wonderful lady, Alicia, and together we share two beautiful daughters, Shannan, age 12 and Olivia, age 8. I also have a 24-year old son, Landon, from my first marriage. Landon is serving proudly in the Air Force since Dec 06 and is married to a wonderful lady, Tracy. I retired from the Air Force after serving for almost 25 years. I had assignments in California (85-88), Hawaii (88-91), St. Louis, MO (91-95), Oberammergau, Germany (95-99), Hawaii again (99-01), a tour at the five-sided puzzle palace--the Pentagon, a lovely tour in England (05-08) and finally the place we are going to call home for the foreseeable future, Colorado Springs. We've been very fortunate to be able to do a lot of traveling all over the world and we have especially enjoyed our time in Europe. All the best to you and your family and God Bless Our Troops!
High School
I think the best thing about Marsh Valley was that it was small enough that you knew who everyone was, unlike some of the bigger schools.
College
Beach volleyball, golf, and lots of partying into the wee hours while attending Hawaii Pacific University. I was able to finish two degrees while working a full-time job and still had time to party. I really enjoyed the "Aloha State" and especially the many friends I made there.
Military
Greatest memory ... serving as the the Superintendent, 451st Air Expeditionary Group, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM from Jan - May 2006. Being under fire definitely makes you stop and think about what is most important in life. Afghanistan is also...Expand for more
a beautiful country with many friendly people who want a chance to live in peace like we do.
The military was a very rewarding and fulfilling career for me and I would recommend it to anyone. You'll never get rich in the military but you will make friends and share experiences that will last a lifetime ... memories that money can never buy!
I had the opportunity to live in some great locations ... Hawaii twice, England and Germany. In Germany I had the unique opportunity to work as part of a staff of over 100 people from 16 different countries that taught over 6,000 students a year from 50+ different countries ... it was an incredible opportunity to experience cultural diversity! I also had the opportunity to live in a housing area with members from several different countries. We always took time to celebrate each other's National Holidays with cultural events/foods ... wonderful memories!
The military afforded me tremendous opportunities for travel ... I've been to over 30 different countries. In 2008, we took a trip to Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Greece and Croatia in April 2008. We visited Scotland in June 2007 where we visited the Highlands, Loch Ness, St. Andrews, Glasgow and Edinburgh. We spent 8 days in Italy in April 2007 where we visited Venice, Pisa, Rome, Capri, Sorrento, Pompeii, and Assissi. It's been great to be able to do a lot of traveling while we were still relatively young! LOL!
Please remember our troops out on the front lines in your prayers and especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms each of us enjoys. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!
