Mike's Story

Life Married August 19, 1995 to Cynthia Jayne Armstrong Raymond. Two sons and a daughter, Thomas Andrew, Michael Alexander and Jessica Amanda. I returned to collage in 2003. Put my business degree in the closet and started attending class as a full time student during the 2003 winter semester. I will be graduating in May, 2006 with my social science degree and will proceed with my master¿s degree in education in the fall of 2006. My goal is to teach high school history and political science. Update: Graduated May 12, 2006 with my social science degree and accepted into graduate school at St. Thomas Aquinas College with the intention of earning my masters in education. Who says life is for the very young. Hope to graduate in December 2007. Update: December 2006. My first semester in graduate school was tough but rewarding. I pull a 3.42 grade point average and with more hard work, I will graduate with honors. God knows how fast time flies by and these four years have been a blessing. Even though I am 41, I don't feel middle age. Can it be so that the eighties ended over 17 years ago? Update: June 2007. The last six months have gone well. I earned a 4.0 for my winter session course and a 3.5 grade point average for the spring semester. I am almost at the end. I will begin my student teaching at North Rockland High School in September. It seems like it hasn't changed at all since I attended the school before my transfer to Nyack High in 1980. My wife and I are going to be leaving New York in the near future. homes and cost of taxes are a fraction of what they are in New York. I have sent my resume to the state education human resource department even though I will be graduating in December. My wife Cindy has her elementary education degree and when we have secured teaching positions we will apply for a mortgage. Update: I completed my master's degree in education on 12/12/2007. I can't believe its over and the last four years have gone by so quickly. I think I will take it easy for the next two weeks. Student teaching was great but secondary school (grades 8 and 9)was like hell on earth. Now its time to look south. I am looking forward to walking with my graduating class in May. Update: 2/01/2008 I was awarded my initial teaching certificate by the state of New York. The three exams need to receive my certificate were incredibly long and complex. Thanks God I passed each one on the first try. College Earned my business degree from Ramapo College in 1995. I am currently attending St. Thomas Aquinas College. I will graduate with my bachelors in social science in the spring of 2006 and start my masters in secondary education in the fall. Workplace After working for great companies like Lederle Labs, today¿s opportunities are certainly lacking. I worked in banking for over seven years and have come to the conclusion that a change had to be made. I went back to college. These days I am working for the family business. While I attend college fulltime, I am involved in the taking care of the rental properties in Garnerville N.Y. Thankfully my business degree is good for something.
