Mike's Story
Hi,
I graduated Wilson that June of '80, then went to Long Beach City College from 1980 to 1982. Joined the Army reserves and then attended CSULB from 1982 to 1984. Went to officers training school and was well on my way to becoming a young lieutenant, when I became disillusioned with life and disgusted with Reagan. I resigned from the Army and dropped out of CSULB, hopped on a plane and moved to Bielefeld, Germany. After some traveling and studying in West Germany, I finally ended up by chance and fate moving to Berlin (East), German Democratic Republic (East Germany) that summer of 1984. Quite a change to move from Long Beach 2 blocks from the ocean to living on the eastern side of the Berlin wall. Living in East Germany was as if world war two had never ended: there were tanks on the street, occasional air raid sirens, military parades, mass political rallies, secret police everywhere, long lines, shortages of everything from water to electricity to you name it, police in squads with dogs everywhere, and ...Expand for more
bombed out buildings on every street. I lived in Prenzlauer Berg/Berlin East Germany (for those who know Berlin or who are so inclined to study maps, I lived off Prenzlauer Allee and Dimitroff str.), fell in love and stayed there up until the country collapsed in the revolution of 1989. Traveled around some and ended up in a civil war in Serbia. Managed to get out of there in one piece, then lived for a while in Eichstatt, Bayern, Germany. Came back to California, then moved to Louisiana to finish college and attend grad school. I got my degree in Geography, then returned to California, flipped a house, traveled around Central America, then left CA and moved to AZ. I work with classic corvettes, and on my own classic cars. I like small dogs with big ears, the desert, camping and travel. I love to surf and lay on the beach, but that's a 6 hour drive now, so I don't get to do that as often as I would like to. I keep myself occupied. Life is a roller coaster, just hang on tight and enjoy the ride.
cheers!
Mike
