Mike's Story
Got a job in a print shop in Medford right out of high school. Worked there for 5 yrs. then transferred to Spokane, Wa. lived there for 3 yrs. (where I met my beautiful, awesome wife) until taking another printing job in Eugene in '82. Been here ever since.
Together we've raised three gorgeous daughters - each of whom we are very proud. They've all grown up to be fine young women.
We have two Labrador retrievers - 1 yellow, 1 black
three cats
two weird science frogs
My favorite hobby is surfing. On weekends between May & Oct., you'll probably find me on the coast somewhere between Florence and Lincoln City sliding down Oregon's ice cold, but clean and (mostly) uncrowded waves. Winter weekends I like wood working, a little steelhead fishing, and following U of O athletics.
Update: 12/2020 - sadly, the print shop shut down in May 2019 after 95 years, due to poor leadership and bad business decisions, so I decided to draw my union pension and take some time off...the rest of my life!. Yay! All our kids are doing well. Brandy, the oldest has 3 kids, a 10 yr. old son and twin daughters age 8. Tiffany has 1 daughter age 17, and Tracie, the youngest has a 1 yr. old daughter and another one due in Feb. 2021. Our old dogs Violet and Chester have returned to the cosmic soup, and we have adopted Leroy the lab and Nellie the chi/jack russell mix.
We're still in Eugene. Have considered moving someplace where the weather is warmer, but we love our home and life here so for now it's here we will stay. Travel has been limited due to covid restrictions, so lots of time spent gardening, playing music and woodworking.
My brother-in-law Mike Lash and I co-own a portable bandsaw mill and have been making lumber from local trees that we've used to make tables, benches, stools, guitar stands and many other projects. I have also been home brewing beer, a "northwest ale" that is mmm sooo delicious! It is a clone of McMennamin's Hammerhead that I call Homerhead.
We still visit my mom and sisters in Medford occasionally. Its amazing how much it has grown and changed since 1975. Guess that's inevitable after 45 years.
