Mike's Story
After leaving Glenforest High School (then known as Glenforest Secondary School), after grade 11, I moved to Tilbury Ont. where I finished HS at Tilbury District High School. I then attended the University of Western Ontario and obtained an HBSc in Geology in 78. This was followed by a move to Calgary where I worked for Amoco and then Canterra as an Exploration Geologist until 86. I left the industry due to oil patch melt down and picked up a trade in Furniture Refinishing. I currently own my own 3000 square foot refinishing shop complete with two spray booths. I have a web site set up for it (allprofurniture.ca). I have been in Calgary now for 31 years (Holy crap!).
I met my wife Doris in 79 and we married in 80. We have 3 kids (a daughter 25, and two sons 24 and 22) all living at home along with our two dogs just outside of Calgary in Chestermere.
For 5 years I participated competitively in inline speed skating on a National level until the end of ...Expand for more
last season, and now enjoy the more leisure activities of cycling (perhaps not so leisure as I am doing the Ride to Conquer Cancer this June and did 3200k this past season) and walking. I also play the didgeridoo as it requires no musical talent. Most recently, however, I have taken up playing blues harp. As one of my hobby passtimes I build and sell boutique harp mics.(mikesmics.shawwebspace.ca) The speed club I belonged to is the Calgary Rollercade Inline Speed Club.(crisc.com).
Over the years I have published several freelance articles in both local and international magazines, and hope to renew that interest closer to retirement.
Other than that I am a hopeless retrocentric just getting on with and enjoying my life, my family, and my career. But I would really like to re-connect with my past, and both Glenforest and TDHS were big parts of it!
