C. Michael's Story

Life I've lived in the Houston area since graduating from Harvard Law in 1973 and joining Vinson & Elkins. At the end of 2018, I retired from the practice of corporate law with Vinson & Elkins. I've been happily married since 1978, and I'm the father of two girls, both of whom are married with two sons each. One lives in the Houston area, the other in the Dallas area. The elder, Averill Harrington Conn, graduated from Yale College in '03 and UT Law in '06, and is senior counsel with Vitol Inc., an energy trading company with its HQ in the Netherlands. r grandsons, Graham Kirk and James Michael, born in 2011 and 2013, respectively. Averill's little sister, Jane Harrington Fowler, is a graduate of the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, with an M.Ed. from UT Austin. Jane is a part-time practicing psychotherapist and full-time mom and homemaker, who is married to Paul Fowler, senior counsel with Vista Energy in Irving, TX. The Fowlers have two sons: Andrew Michael, born in 2014, and Samuel Lee, born in 2016. Retirement life is sweet, giving me time to linger over coffee and the Wall Street Journal at breakfast and read good books most afternoons after taking my daily half-hour walk. I published my memoirs, Up From Borger, in early 2021.
