Mike's Story
Mike is from Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Mike's schools include Williamsville North High School and Thomas Jefferson High School in Pittsburgh, Pa later Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas Mike works(ed) at LyondellBasell, Lyondell, ARCO Chemical Company and Vulcan Chemicals Wichita, Kansas until 1988. I was retired but this was not my idea, personally I believed 58 yo is a little young to be retired in 2011, Fallout from 2008 with reductions and cost savings we all know the drill. While I liked doing chemical research and I like science in general there is only so much of business shenanigans one can tolerate in a lifetime. I spent my 59th year looking for work and not wanted to compromise on salary or position and I did not. Instead my wife retired too and we moved to Nice France and bought an apartment. use I have been out of school for a very long time. I did not expect I would be required to go to school as my wife is a French National and granting me a residency visa I thought to be a slam dunk. How wrong I was ... I had to pass a written and oral exam in basic French (eqiv. to 2 years of school French) or I would not be granted a residency visa. There is always something. My original plan was to have Denise teach me a little French while we travel about and had fun. Do it my leisure. I need a 10 out of 20 to pass and I got 19.8 out of 20 never put that much effort into a North High class especially as language is not my strong subject then or now. While I am not fluent I can make myself understood. My daughter is fluent and does it think it is all that hard, but she learned when she was a youngster and that makes a different.
