Going to Sequoyah was such an experience. I remember going to Chamblee High for a half day, while the school was being completed. The upper classmen at Chamblee kept calling us squirrels for some odd reason. That first year (which would have been my 9th grade) I was on the pep squad. In December we finally got to go to our brand new school, which was such a thrill. My 10th grade, I made it on the Jr. Varsity cheering squad. Which was so much fun. In the 11th grade I made the Drill team, I will never forget going to the Future Farmers or 4H camp during the summer to learn our routines. I remember the first game, we had a drill where we marched 5 yards and the made a turn, so that eventually we were in a v shape. Since I was one of the shortest I and the girl on the other end of the line each turned. It was another 5 yards before the next girl turned. My parents were so upset because they thought I had messed up until they saw the next girl to turn. I also remember how nervous we all were when we had to march in front of the Monroe Drum and Bugle corp (which was known nationally). I have s...Expand for more
