G's Story
After Millikan Junior High I attended Grant for two years then, suddenly, out of nowhere, was whisked away from the Valley when my family moved to Tucson, Arizona.
I graduated from Palo Verde High School after two years, attended the University of Arizona for two years, transferred to Stanford University for two years (there's a pattern here) and then, after graduation, spent the next two years wandering through California, Arizona and Texas as a free-lance writer/editor.
Unfortunately, being self-employed did not work for me: my business skills suck. I mean, *really* suck.
So I moved back to Northern California and got a job at (hello again) Stanford. My plan was to work there briefly, a couple years at most, then move on. Instead I stayed, finally retiring after 25 years of toiling in the bowels of Stanford's computer infrastructure doing technical writing/editing, graphic design, illustration, usability analysis, web design, and ...Expand for more
other stuff.
I was married to a wonderful woman, but it ultimately did not work out. Our son now attends UC Davis and will be graduating soon. He totally rules.
After retiring from Stanford I moved back to Tucson, and eventually married a girl I knew and had dated at Palo Verde High School. She too is wonderful, and I count myself lucky to have her in my life.
Meanwhile, several members of my family have moved back to LA, not far from Grant High. I visit them once in a while, and each time find myself wondering about people I remember from high school. For many of these people I have only affectionate memories, and to many I owe more than they will ever know. I no longer have a Grant or Millikan year book (both destroyed in a flood), so despite the strength of my memories both names and faces prove elusive. This website is probably the only means by which by which I'll ever get in touch with these people again. Which also sucks.
