Miranda's Story

Life After college I never dreamed that I would be teaching at my high school alma mater. But my three years teaching English at Live Oak was wonderful...I actually miss it. But life has taken me on some unexpected journeys. Chad was asked to spearhead a finance campaign that took us and our daughter, Hannah, 5000 miles from home to London, England. It was one of the best (and at times the worst) experience of my life. Apart from culture shock, we adapted to the British way of life and enjoyed travelling throughout the UK (the best part was visiting all the places that I once read about in History & Literature books). We also travelled a lot throughout Europe...hopping from one country to another. I must say that spending time in Europe has taught me a lot about myself and how I view things from a more worldly perspective. While I appreciate my education, living and travelling abroad has taught me much more than I could have ever learned from a textbook. At the end of 2003 we moved back to the states to Kingwood, TX (just northeast of Houston). We now have two children; Hannah & Seth. I'm currently teaching English/Speech Communications at Humble High School. HHS is the 2nd largest high school in Texas so we operate much like a small college. I am now feeling a little more established here in Texas but ...Expand for more
in the back of my mind I know we will not be here much longer. Chad's profession is a steady pace of moving (good for his career; bad for establishing "roots"). However, I have no complaints; the opportunity to experience life through other regions, cultures, and communities is priceless (remembering where I came from helps me appreciate where I'm going). College I LOVED college. It was the hardest but most fun years of my life. I remember studying a lot, many sleepless nights up working on projects, and most importantly, graduation day (it couldn't have come soon enough)! I also remember going out with friends, auditioning for school plays (or working in the theater), and of course, networking...no bridges were burned when it came to professors, grades, or evaluations. What I did hate about college was the parking!! Or those professors who were "all-knowing" and refused to give A's just for spite. But considering we all went through it, I hold no grudges toward the idiot who always parked illegally and blocked me in or the debate guru who couldn't just "let it go" so we could slip out of class early. And despite not going to LSU, nothing was more awesome than going to Tiger Stadium on Saturday night! Of course, now when I go back, the college students seem like "kids"...am I really that close to 30!!!
