Miriam Heller:

CLASS OF 1974
Northport, NY

Miriam's Story

Life After Northport, I got a BS in Biology/Geology from University of Rochester so I could SCUBA dive for 6 months in the Caribbean. It was a wise choice (excepting the very high R-square between Cruzan Gold and neuronal deterioration. But that was mild for the 70’s.) I then modeled civil infrastructure systems for improved decision-making to earn a Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. I found me a man who played a fine Fender bass in graduate school. He said he liked the way I sang Statesboro Blues so I followed him to Paris, France and got married. I toured Europe with him and learned French during our 2.5 year honeymoon, landed back in New York on Lexington Avenue at Citibank using artificial neural networks (since I had no natural ones left) to detect credit card fraud. Then I followed him to Texas where I applied artificial insemination, I mean, artificial intelligence to the “oil bidness” working at DEC. Naively, I decided to try a wholesome life...Expand for more
by starting a family and getting a respectable professorship at the University of Houston, which I thought would result in a “happily-ever-after.” I just passed 7 months as a 1999-2000 Fulbright Scholar studying the life-cycle of semiconductor manufacturing in the south of France. (For only $19.99 you can find out why one needs to travel to France, when the largest amount of chip fab occurs in Texas!) I then left the very fine country of Texas. (Oops, I mean State of Texas, which I had begun to think of as a state of bliss up until about 2 years ago.) I’m about to build life #2 in Virginia, where I aim to be a higher-paid, less-worked federal bureaucrat. I do retain a certain ambition, integrity and work ethic so I can support two great kids: a “Mitzi” clone aged 8 and a handsome blond blue-eyed boy aged 9. Their father got lost along the way. I keep in touch Margaret Lambires, who keeps me up on Karen Stroh and Katie Carp. I have spoken with Amy Regis in the last decade.
