Misty's Story
Life
After graduating from RHS, I went to COCC and then moved to England in 1995, where I am fortunate enough to live in Devon, which is a beautiful area of the country with friendly people. I also lived in Toronto (Canada) for a year - what a wonderful city!
I feel fortunate to have been able to travel to various places both in and out of Oregon - Hawaii, Alaska, New York, Toronto, the UK (obviously), France, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia... The funny thing is that I'm a bit of a homebody at heart!
I've recently gotten married to a lovely English scientist I met at modern jive dance classes. We enjoy a varied list of hobbies based both indoors and out and share our home with two Bengal cats, Fizgig and Peanut. Life is good!
I'm lucky to have good friends and family and a good job. The only thing I wish is that my friends and family weren't as spread out as they are!
School
I was pretty shy at school, so I'm not sure if more than one or two people will even remember me. I find it interesting to read through the bio's now and see where everyone is - I just wish my yearbooks weren't languishing in storage in Oregon, because there are names I can't put to faces anymore.
Highlights of school for me were my classes with Misters Hanson, Erickson...Expand for more
and Gedrose, and Donna.
I didn't have much involvement with other school activities - pep assemblies were excrutiating, and I spent most lunchtimes in the library. I don't have bad memories of school, though, and have since come out of my shell like the proverbial hermit crab.
College
I went to COCC for a couple years, but was distracted by Boys and did not graduate. I've taken a few distance learning courses in the UK with a view to getting a degree, but it's a gradual process.
Workplace
I've had a number of different jobs since leaving high school...
- handing out cheese samples
- working at a cinema
- working for a producer of semi-conductors
Then I moved to England, where it all became more civilised...
- a lot of office work/temping
- working in the editorial department of a publisher of medical journals
- working as a computer programmer and then running a training center for wannabe computer programmers
- homemaker
- running the Quality Assurance department of a company that produced interactive media (television, mobile phone, etc) applications for sophisticated organisations like the National Health Service and, erm, a few producers of gambling and porn channels.
I've recently joined one of the major scientific branches of the UK civil service. I'm enjoying it!
