Monte Castleman:  

I was born in Artesia, NM. Attended Central Elementary 1st & part of the 2nd grade. My father went to work in the potash mines in Carlsbad around 1956. Spent most of my childhood in Carlsbad. My grandmother lived in Artesia, so I spent lots of times in Artesia also. Attended Hillcrest elementery, Alta Vista Jr high, Mid-High while in Carlsbad. In the fall of 1965, 4 to 5 weeks into the 1st semester, I moved back to Artesia. Graduated in 1967 from AHS. I was drafted in 1969 for the Army. Spent my 20th birthday on a Army cot in Ft. Bliss, TX. I took basic training in Ft. Bliss, TX and my Pershing missile training was at Ft. Sill, OK. I spent my service in working in the field on Black Mesa, UT and Nechersam Germany.
