Roy's Story

Well lets see, As some of you might remember, I met most of you back in Curren School and from there went to Fremont Jr. High School. After Fremont, I attended Oxnard High School for 2 years, then they changed the school boundaries on me and I attended Hueneme High School for the last 2 years prior to going into the military. Now, I am married with 3 outstanding beautiful girls of who I have a great time terrifying the would be suitors of my daughters.... MUHAHAHA.... but hey, they are my babies, and guys today are scum!!! LOL. What can I say, I am a Dad!! I always wanted to be a computer geek (program writer, repairman, operator, game/simulation designer) of some sort when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. In fact I remember my Dad telling me that I was crazy to think that people would have computers in their homes as they wouldn't have a practical use within the home. As it turns out, they were wrong. Guess who is laughing now. :-) When I was in the Army (1986), I did my basic and advance training at Fort Jackson, SC. From there I was assigned to Fort Irwin, CA (The National Training Center - NTC). In 1990 I was assigned on a dependent restricted tour to Greece for 13 months. It was also during this time that I was able to fly back home for the birth of my first Daughter. I swear the world stopped spinning that day as I was on cloud nine!! Who would have thought - ME, a daddy!!! From that day forward I became a very protective father (maybe a little over protective at times.... BUT HEY... I'M A DAD... THAT'S MY JOB!!!) I was only able to be with her and my wife, at that time, for only two weeks before I had to fly back overseas. During my time in Greece I was first assigned in Athens, and later was reassigned to Argyroupolis just outside of Thessaloniki. During my time in Greece I was sent to Vilsek, Germany for Primary Leadership Development Training. Then at the end of my tour there in Argyroupolis, Uncle Sam sent me right back to The National Training Center (NTC) where I eventually got out in 1994 shortly after the birth of my second Daught...Expand for more
er. After I got out of the Army, I started working as a government contractor with Hughes (still out at Fort Irwin). Later on the Hughes' contract was bought by Raytheon. It was during this time that my Third daughter was born (1999). I continued to work with Raytheon until Feb of 2000 when I accepted an offer with Cubic Application to work as a Graphics Art/Web Designer. About 6 months later Cubic learned about my military experience and offered me a position as a military analyst in the main training command center at the NTC. I was married for 18 years before my first wife abandoned my 3 girls and myself. Then in Dec 2005 (just one month after my new wife and I were married) I was given an offer by General Dynamics to work on a government contract at Scholfield Barracks in Hawaii. I had to think long and hard about this one (I think I accepted the offer by the end of the day - but only after talking it over with my wife). Then in 2008, General Dynamics (GD) wanted me to come back out the NTC to be part of their team there. They were trying to rebuild their team and since I had the knowledge of the NTC and of the computers systems out there to include the computer systems being use by GD, they felt I would be a great asset. Well after about a month of thinking it over, my wife and I decided that I would take the offer at the NTC. Unfortunately after numerous promises were not kept or fulfilled by GD, I spoke with my old contacts with Cubic and now I am employed with Cubic once again at the NTC. This time I am working as the Thread Writer (big title for the Guy who writes up the master events/script for the training objectives). I have always loved training soldiers or being a part of their training. After having served, I have always felt a strong tie of kinship and responsibility for training the next generation. I feel the better I am able to training them, the better chances they will have of coming back to home to their loved ones. Needless to say this is a very personal subject to me. Well believe it or not, that is just a brief as to what has been going on in my life. LOL.
