Myra's Story
Life
Hey there! I am living a great life, working hard, enjoying my children who are now 21 & & almost 20 now. I work as a service rep for "the NEW At&t" (Bellsouth) in a specialty group called Local Number Portability. I love my job! I have 30 yrs with the company, but won't be able to retire til at least the children are through college :c(
I had 28yrs with Johnny Allen, who was in my high school home room. He's a hard worker & a wonderful daddy to my children! We married Oct 1978.
I grew up at First Baptist, Canton. Since I moved to Acworth, the Lord led me to do His work here in the community I live. I found a great church fellowship at Summit Baptist Church. I'm in their choir & belong to a wonderful ladies SS class.
We've had our share of hard times. Our 1st dtr, Janna developed serious brain damage after recovering from Reye's Syndrome at 6mos old. That sweet gal gave us 5yrs of awe & wonder before the Lord took her. She was born May 1982. She died Aug 1987.
April 2000 Johnny's mother had a stroke that left her right side paralized. We lived with her then, while our new house was being built, then brought her with us into the new house. Joann amazed us being able to walk and do all she did after her stroke. Joann died March 2006.
My dear mom(Betty Bagwell) had Alzheimer's. Through it all, Mom never lost her smiles & was always ready to give out hugs. We learned that all her Chastain ancesters had A's, so when I start acting odd, you'll know it's my turn for it:c) Mom died May 2005.
Daddy (Wayne Bagwell) went in to get one of his arteries opened up to his heart--a simple procedure done every day. Daddy had some complications though & died soon after his surgery. His death was a shock to us--thought Mom'd go first. Daddy died Oct 2004.
After Joann died, I kind of gained back my freedom. I enjoyed being active in church again & I found all kinds of excuses to travel to nearby places. My dream trip would be up the east coast up to Maine to pig out on REAL lobster, then mosey around the northeast, back down thru PA & VA..th...Expand for more
is trip would take me about a month to finish. <sigh>
For now though I'm still working hard til Laurie's finished with college. I'm enjoying the title of "home owner" & learning what I can and canNOT do by myself <grin>.. For example, I had to buy a tv. I brought the 1st one home & tried to move it...wouln't budge!! So I had to go back & get one I could haul in myself!!
School
I was painfully shy. Daddy had me afraid to bring any boys home--he claimed if they had one of those "hippy" hair cuts, he'd embarass them right out the door! I was the oldest...we learned that he wouldnt really do that, but I sure didnt want to run any boys off!
I lived for chorus!! Jerry Mathis was a true inspiration to us. Don Stafford kept the standards high also.
College
My 1st roommate was named Kathryn Rice. She was a wonderful roomate. I hope she & Rick are doing well.. So if you're "listening"
Kathryn, may the Lord bless!!
I made some awesome friends there in Barnes hall. I'd love to see each one again & give them all a big hug!
I had my 1st boyfriends at NGC..I was really new at that dating thing--still shy with boys. Thank you guys for tolorating me!
Fondest memories come from all my friends from Suches!! I'm afraid I damaged some of those friendships after my dtr Janna came home fr the hospital. I sort of left the "real world" there for a while--focusing on only Janna & I believe now I went into some kind of depression. I hope one day we all could get back together & laugh so hard it hurts...like we used to do!
I never finished college--a shame in a way, a blessing in another!
The Lord put me in places He wanted me to be & my life took off as Mrs Johnny Allen & faithful Southern Bell employee.
Workplace
I love my work at the former Southern Bell, turned Bellsouth, now turned the New AT&T. I've loved every position I've had for the 30yrs I've been on payroll!
I've made fabulous friends & every office I've been with has been like a 2nd family--caring & giving.
Although it's rough to have to work for a living, I'm very grateful for it!
