Myron (Mike)'s Story

Life Married; 5 children; 7 grandchildren; Wharton School, 1954; NYU Graduate School (MBA 1965); Management Consultant to growth oriented entrepreneurial companies; living in Manhattan and in Kent Lakes, NY. I graduated FHHS in 1950 and attended Queens College for 1 year. I transferred to the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and graduated in 1954. Married in 1957 to Sandy and raised 2 sons over the next 25 years in New York, New Jersey and Wynnewood, PA., Sandy died on our 25th anniversary and I got lucky a second time in my life when I remet and then married Jane Epstein Gracer who I had dated at Wharton. The same couple that fixed us up 28 years earlier fixed us up again and the rest is history. We will celebrate our 26th anniversary in January 2010. Jane and I have three sons. two daughters, six grandsons and 1 granddaughter between us and they keep us very busy. Sandy had just graduated Law School when she fell ill with cancer. Jane is a retired Senior VP of Development for the Continuum Health Partners (Beth Israel Medical Center, St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital, New York Eye & Ear Hospital, Long Island College Hospital). She retired in 2991 after 18 years on that job. I spent the first 25 years of my business experience in and around retailing. I was VP of three different retail chains handling all the Administrative, MIS, Personnel, Strategic Planning and Logistics functions. I've spent the last 36 years as a consultant. The first four of those years with what is now Ernst & Young and the remaining time with my own consulting ...Expand for more
company Myron I. Blumenfeld & Associates. I'm basically retired now but still take on some assignments if they are interesting and challenging. I am spending a lot of time now providing training and mentoring services to young entrepreneurs in the under-served communities of New York (Harlem, Bed Stuy, South Bx, etc.. I serve on the Board of WIBO (Workshop in Business Opportunities) as well as teach classes, provide one on one counseling and mentor a lot of aspiring entrepreneurs to help them make their dream a reality. In addition to 7 locations around NYC, we also go into three prisons and introduce the idea of entrepreneurship to soon-to-be released prisoners and then give them scholarships into our classes when they get out. I'm finding these programs very rewarding. I am also an Entrepreneur in Residence Berkley Center for Entreprenuership and Innovation at the NYU Stern School of Business and in this capacity I help any undergraduate, graduate or post graduate students, alumni, faculty and staff of NYU to prepare a viable business plan for any venture they decide they would like to start. I counsel, coach and mentor the people I work with and manage to stay young working with these highly motivated and creative people. I love tennis and golf and play the former all year around and the latter between April and November. We live in Manhattan and take advantage of the social and cultural environment we live in. I'd love to connect with old classmates from FHHS and invite any who remember me, or who may not, but want to reconnect, to contact me.
