Nadene's Story
My husband passed away in March 2013. We were married 43 1/2 years. Life moves on so you have to pick up the pieces and move on. Life is too short to wallow in pity. I volunteer at Kaiser South Sacramento doing Pet Therapy and other projects. I also am on the board of Friends of Stone Lake Wildlife Preserve near Elk Grove, CA.
I still live on the 3 1/2 acres we moved to in 1980. With fruit tress and garden to tend I have fresh fruit and vegetables to eat. I do my part to conserve resources.
My working career was varied and much joy. I was a stay at home mom for many years but was offered a fantastic job managing the health and welfare prgoram for a local school district. I love solving problems and navigating the pitfalls of the health care system.
As our son was graduating from high school and realizing that there was no upward mobility from my job I took a job as "DA Tax Collector" with the State Board of Equalization. ired from the Board as an analyst in our Technology Support division. It was very interesting and challenging work.
My passion for knitting was sparked when I was 8 and I continue to enjoy it. I knit isolette blankets and caps for the local Kaiser Neo-Natal Intensive Care Nursery. Those babies are so precious.
We left Southern California in 1980 when our daughter was going to be bussed from our local school to a school two hours one way on a bus. "Time to get out of Dodge".
I love my rural neighborhood and hope to remain here until I can no longer keep it up or have the money to pay someone to take care of it.. Lots of open space and mostly great people. Some are city folk who have moved to the country and are absolutely clueless about living in the country. They need to move back to town. Ya just can't run around the corner to the store because you are missing an ingredient for dinner. The peace and quiet is heaven. Kind of like living in Upland when I was growing up. Except there are no orange orchards to walk to school through.
Well this enough of an update for now. If you want more let me know.
