Nanci's Story
School:
1969 - 1970, My one and only year at EDHS. My senior year was a lot different than I thought it would have been four years prior. If you all remember this was the beginning of "total intergration". The transistion was a little shaky but I like to think that by the end of the school year it was was much smoother.
Which Teacher Would You Love to See Again? Why?:
I had Mr. Wells for English and I must say I have never enjoyed a class more!! He was the epitome of a southern gentleman. A class I looked forward to each day. So, Mr. Wells would be my choice of teachers to see again.
The Wildest Thing I Ever Did in School:
The wildest thing I ever did at school was "smoke" a cigarette and I was on the basketball team!! Nor did I have permission from my parents to smoke (but who did?)
The Weirdest Job I Ever Had:
The weirdest job I ever had was working for a food service at Kennedy Airport. We prepared the meal for the flights. This is going back a lot of years (obviously since there are no meals on flights these days:)). I think it was the summer of 1971. What was weird about it for me was I had to be at work by 6:00 am and I had to take three buses to get there!! Which meant I had to leave home very early. I cannot remember what time I got up to make this trek. Needless to say that job did not last very long!! I did it for a week.
How Do You Hope Old Friends Remember You:

ear. I didn't make a lot of new friends but I would like to think that the people who do remember me will do so fondly. I was a nice person, friendly and outgoing. I still am by the way.
Where Have You Lived - Why Did you Move?
I lived in Durham until I graduated from college. I moved to St. Albans, New York after graduation and lived with my two sisters for about 6 months. My sister Tina and I moved out and found our own place. Tina and I lived together for a few years until she decided to return to North Carolina. I have lived in New York longer than I lived in the place of my birth.
I bought a house eleven years ago in Elmont, NY. I plan to live here a few more years. I would like to relocate to Duplin County or maybe Wayne.
To Be Truly Happy:
To be truly happy I would be gardening right now!! Today is a beautiful day in New York. I think the temperature is in the high 70s so we are now having Spring. I would also enjoy sitting in the back yard reading a "good" book and watching the grass grow.
I guess my biggest suprise about life has been that I actually raised a child. My sister passed away ten years ago and I became guardian of her daughter. That little girl is now 19 and is about to complete her first year of college. It was not easy but as I look back I learned a lot from her and I learned a lot about myself. It was a fulfilling and rewarding experience to have touched someone's life in a positive way.
