Nancy's Story
Life
I have owned my own home in The Dalles, Oregon since November, 1988 and have worked here for 20 years, the first 4 for the Army Corps of Engineers at The Dalles Dam, and the succeeding 16 to the present for several radiologist doctors at a billing service and have also added as contract labor over the last 8 years medical transcription for two ENT physicians. For fun (and pay) for the last 2 years, I also play the keyboard for the local catholic church choir. So my life instead of slowing down towards retirement is accelerating, it seems. I raised three children, the two oldest are girls, 31 and 26, and my son who is 25. He has been married for 3 years, and the youngest ones are still living in The Dalles trying to keep a watch on their aging mother, I think. I have a cat who adopted us not long after I moved into my house. She is still pretty spry and looks really good with a soft fur coat. rtha's Vineyard, have seen the reenactment of the Boston Tea Party, went on a catamaran and whale watched in 1999, the year I first got my own computer. But have not done much traveling. I went 4 years to the University of Oregon, have taught school until I had my family, and substituted after they were gone from home a couple years. My mom and aunt live in The Dalles. My dad passed away 3 years ago. So on my day off on Monday I take my mom to visit her sister in The Dalles and she also gives us a good lunch. We watch her cable TV, see videos, and I share things with them I've gotten from the internet that they don't have access to. In the spring I re-injured my left knee, so I have been in physical therapy for awhile and now have joined a fitness club to use the swimming pool and whirlpool to keep my knee workable and as painfree as possible.
