Nancy's Story
I grew up in upper Manhattan. Or as my friend Rachel used to say "in upper, upper, UPPER" Manhattan, in Washington Heights and Inwood, both above 160th street. Most non-native Manhattanites don't even know that Manhattan exists beyond the upper West side (that's the 90's to them).
Well Rachel, "upper, upper, UPPER" Manhattan has come a long way baby... it's on Broadway now in the play 'In the Heights'. See one day I knew that neighbor would be cool one day. Now I live in Northern NJ (since '91) and maybe there's nothing especially 'cool' about it, but the parking is free. And that is HUGE for me; it was the trigger for me moving here. The accountant in me 'did the math' and it made more sense to own w/free parking and get a tax write-off than be 'cool' and have a 212 area code. You can't bank 'cool'.
I know, those of you who knew me in HS would think I would conclude otherwise. Fortunately I've matured, and some might say I'm a bit of a spend thrift now. Can't help it though, for the first half my career I was an accountant and auditor. A...Expand for more
nd then thanks to the 'Y2K' syndrome, I moved into implementing financial software.
I prefer what I do now, but nothing can compare to my internal auditing days when I used to globetrot around the world and got paid to spend my weekends in Paris, Acapulco, Berlin, Cartagena, etc. To this day, that was the BEST job I ever had and I worked with some of the best. A big shout out to my ex-colleagues and old friends from Bristol-Myers Squibb Internal Auditing and Corporate Accounting Depts. I would love to hear from you.
I love to travel and I still travel for work but not as much these days. I changed jobs last year and work out of Hoboken now. I traded in the travel perks for a shorter commute and seeing my friends on the weekend. Even too much of a good thing, can wear on you. Now I focus on me and my home. I'm just looking forward to retirement now, but keeping busy and having as much fun as possible until then.
That's it, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Do you know me? You think you might know me? Write me a note and say 'hello'.
