Nancy Lea 's Story

I married an Air Force guy (Dave Burgess from Worcester Ma everyone called him Rooster)in 1978 and moved to Washington State, had a baby girl and played basketball for the Fairchild AFB base team. We moved to Spangdahlem Germany from 80 -83 and I played basketbal, softball and volleyball all 3 years all over Europe. We then moved to Avon Park Florida and in 1986 I had a baby boy. I still played ball and moved to Misawa Japan. Played basketball all over Asia along with softball and volleyball. We moved back to Hill AFB Utah and for 9 years we lived there I played softball on a traveling team. We went to Steamboat Springs Colorado, played in the Nationals every year and the last year we took 2nd.I have been on an employee co-ed team. I still play volleyball, but now I practice with the guys team. Once you reach a certain age, you find not a lot of ladies play sports or are any good at it. I still play 3 on 3 basketball once a year during Senior Games. The Villages (retirement community) puts on a great tournament. My daughter married in 2007 had a baby and my son joined the Air Force & he got married in 2008.I am the owner/manager of my own company Lam Inc. I love it very, very much. I always wanted to be a basketball player when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to my high school friends, then spend the rest on my parents, my kids and myself. I love gardening. I like the weed pulling and the flower planting. It does relax you. I have lived in many places because I am an Army brat and I married an Air Force man. We lived in Texas, Colorado, Germany and Oklahoma when my dad was in the Army. When I meet and married my husband, we moved to Washington Sate, Germany, Florida, Japan, Utah and now back to Florida. I loved the military life. I have been in it all my life. I think people don't realize what it's like to move every 3 years. Our tour in Utah was 9 years. That is because Dave was involved in Desert Storm/Shield. He then volunteered for Micronesia Island for 6 months so we could stay in Utah till our daughter graduated High School...Expand for more
. Some people never leave their birth place. I was very fortuniate to have the opportunity to move and enjoy the cultures of all the cool places we went. In Europe, we traveled all over. We took the train and rode the Autobon. Not a lot of people can say they have taken a bullet train in Asia. I just loved traveling. All the different countries we visited while playing sports was absolutely wonderul. Dave had his trips and I had mine and good thing they were not the same days. Poor Krissta and Kyle. Dave did not travel playing sports in Asia, but for work he went everywhere. 7 times to Korea. I went one week with him and we took 1500 dollars, not all our money, came home with 5 dollars. It was fun. For those of you who have been in one state all your life, get out and explore. Take a cruise, train trip across the United States, the train cars are much nicer on the West coast. I hope all my friends in my past remember me as smiling all the time, fun, crazy person. I still am ya'll. Ha, ha. I am not sure what the wildest thing I ever did in school, but I bet others have stories they could share that I did that they thought was wild. I was not a normal kid, didn't wear dresses to school. Had my letterjacket on all the time and wore my orange high tops with everything. I sure miss those days. To bad we can't go back in time. Marty is one person that truely has been my friend at school (years ago) and now that we are older. When I visit home, it is her that I usually go see. I missed that for many years when she lived in Colorado, Im glad she moved back to Snyder so when I come home to visit my parents, she is there so we can catch up on times. I miss ya Marty. I really like to watch College sports. Not sure why, but they are more interesting to me than the professionals. I think because there is a cause to college, pros get money and they don't have the same feelings about wins/losses as college. I have sat and watched college volleyball all day long. I don't have to participate, it's just watching them is so exciting. From soccer to baseball to football, even high school sports are good, but the nights and times are horrible. I LOVE SPORTS
